Environmental, Health and Safety Director oversees organizational compliance with local, state and federal environment, health and safety regulations. Ensures that environmental policy and procedure manuals are available and updated at all times. Being an Environmental, Health and Safety Director ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Additionally, Environmental, Health and Safety Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a unit/department head. The Environmental, Health and Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     POSITION: EHS Specialist

    REPORTS TO:  Sr EHS Manager

    Position Summary

    The EHS Specialist provides guidance to the workforce to prevent injuries and illnesses, and to enhance employee health and safety at Flagstone Foods. Flagstone Foods is on the journey to zero injuries. Creates creative and meaningful opportunities to engage employees in their health and safety. Partners with the EHS Manager to implement and maintain all required programs.   The EHS Specialist executes programs and inspections meant to promote compliance with corporate and legal standards and overall employee health.   

     

    Essential Functions

    • Responsible for managing training that provides employees and managers with the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize hazards and perform their jobs safely and effectively. 
    • Manages training program execution that meets and exceeds regulatory standards.
    • Manage training database and reports compliance metrics regularly.
    • Supports employee involvement, where appropriate, in all areas of health and safety prevention, as well as in addressing identified health and safety issues.
    • Record Keeping - Maintains safety and health information to meet government requirements, as well as to provide data for problem solving and decision-making.
    • Works in tandem with EHS Manager to identify site compliance and safety issues, reviews and develops plans to improve, reduce, or eliminate them.
    • Perform regular site inspections and audits of various safety programs and general behavior in production areas for program compliance, risk elimination and general employee support.
    • Train and assist others (Effected employees – Supervisors, Safety Committee Members, Facilities, etc.) to complete their safety responsibilities.
    • Support implementation and compliance with Haz COMM program and policies.
    • Assist in and report findings for incident investigation and safety inspections.
    • Assistance in administrative duties in the EHS department including:
    1. Incident documentation
    2. Safety Council / Committee documentation
    3. LOTO compliance (training and documentation)
    4. Job Safety Analysis (JSA) documentation
    5. Assist with new employee EHS orientation and with all EHS training on a monthly, quarterly, and annual schedule
    • Completes other duties and tasks as assigned.

    Qualifications (Education/Experience)

    • Minimum 4 years’ experience in direct Environmental, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Safety experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • Currently or ability to certify in CPR/First Aid/Blood Borne Pathogen.
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other safety certification, preferred.
    • LEAN manufacturing experience preferred.
    • Applied knowledge and working understanding of federal EHS requirements (i.e., OSHA, EPA, NFPA), regulatory compliance, experience with inspections, incident investigations, process safety, contractor safety, EHS training, hazard reviews and job safety analysis.
    • Incident investigation, root cause analysis and continuous improvement skills.
    • Solid communication skills, influencing and collaborative skills.
    • Organizational skills with proven ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Takes responsibility for actions, respects confidentiality, completes commitments on time, and uses data to support decisions.
    • Self-motivated to improve processes and performance. Can adapt and reapply new ideas and methods to improve team/plant performance.
    • Knowledge of Behavior Based Safety program implementation.
    • Computer literacy: Power Point, Word, Excel, Teams.
    • Bilingual In English and Spanish
