Environmental, Health and Safety Director oversees organizational compliance with local, state and federal environment, health and safety regulations. Ensures that environmental policy and procedure manuals are available and updated at all times. Being an Environmental, Health and Safety Director ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Additionally, Environmental, Health and Safety Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a unit/department head. The Environmental, Health and Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Responsible for assisting the Executive Director of EHS and company EHS personnel implement and execute corporate EHS strategies and initiatives that support the Company's business strategies and activities. All related activities shall be designed to show a company environment, safety and health culture that supports our vision of “Protecting Our People, Customers, and the Environment” by driving regulatory compliance, increased employee involvement, and providing sustainable results.

    The Director of EHS will report to the Executive Director of EHS and will serve as a critical member of the corporate EHS department. During time of absence from the Executive Director, the Director will perform all equivalent duties to ensure continuous support of EHS primary functions.

    Major Job Activities

    • Develops and executes enterprise wide EHS strategies that establishes expectations, principal values, and integrated approach of EHS excellence as value added support of business performance. Identify and eliminate EHS hazards and risks while reducing related business costs. Serve as “Subject Matter Expert” for corporate, operational, business unit, and program level EHS support.
    • Provide EHS SME support including direct support of Legal Department, Operational Excellence, Business Development, Risk Management, Operations, Program Management Offices, and individual sites.
    • Administers Occupational Health Programs to include Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Medicine Services. Develops strategies that ensures compliance with both federal and state as well as client specific requirements which includes IH monitoring and reporting and recommended medical physicals.
    • Function as “Change Agent” for strategic transition plan for M&A activity establishing future EHS vision and mission plans that supports EHS Excellence as one of the leading global providers of mission-essential solutions. Continue to support future growth through indoctrination of new business and operational locations into EHS principles.
    • Manages and enhances Environment, Health & Safety Management System (EHSMS) and supports ‘Vector to ZERO’ philosophy which drives our efforts to continue the Path-to-Premier Environment, Health, and Safety Performance and Environmental Social & Governance (ESG) strategies.
    • Develops, reviews, and supports internal EHS policies and procedures ensuring currency, compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, and alignment with industry best practices.
    • Serves as a member of the corporate audit team as a Subject Matter Expect. Conducts on-site reviews and audits of programs in both CONUS & OCONUS locations. Conduct accident investigations to determine root cause and necessary corrective actions for sustainable results. Conducts hazard and risk assessments and develops new or, where necessary, makes recommendations to amend, safety policies and procedures.
    • Promotes environmental, health and safety awareness through continuous and prompt EHS communications. Develops and delivers training programs related to OSHA, EPA and customer regulations and requirements. Actively participates in the scheduling of safety meetings across all business units and programs to review safety performance.
    • Administers the accident investigation program to prevent recurrence of incidents and to ensure information on incidents is shared adequately across all programs. Supplies written reports, as well as other EHS-related results and updates, to senior management periodically to appraise the staff of critical issues or as requested.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required. Use the guide below to determine education and experience for this position.

    Education/Experience Requirements

    Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in an associated discipline (e.g., Biology, Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental, etc.).
    • Master’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience (two years of equivalent work experience can replace one year of education). NOTE: Education cannot be “traded” for missing years of experience.

    Experience:

    • Ten years’ experience in any combination of the following areas: Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Management and Military Aviation Safety. Five years’ experience within similar corporate role.

    Certifications/Licenses:

    • Professional certifications as CSP or CIH (Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist) preferred. Equivalent safety related certification and training can be considered.

    Other Requirements:

    • Travel up to 30%

    • Collaboration and Teamwork/Influence:
    • Build competency and serve as a mentor, teacher, and coach in building technical and leadership capability of subject matter experts across the EHS community in environmental stewardship supporting the company footprint globally.
