Environmental, Health and Safety Director oversees organizational compliance with local, state and federal environment, health and safety regulations. Ensures that environmental policy and procedure manuals are available and updated at all times. Being an Environmental, Health and Safety Director ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Additionally, Environmental, Health and Safety Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a unit/department head. The Environmental, Health and Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     The Director of Environmental Services will oversee the maintenance and upkeep of all physical aspects of the facility including service of electrical, plumbing, fire alarm and mechanical systems, maintenance of equipment, physical plant, utilities, and grounds.

     

    Director of Environmental Services Responsibilities:

    ·       Coordinates and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal building codes, SDS, OSHA, EPA, CMS, regulations, and fire codes

    ·       Manage a team of maintenance technicians and contractors to ensure timely and effective completion of work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, and emergency repairs

    ·       Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and expenditures

    ·       Identify opportunities for improvement in maintenance processes, procedures, and equipment

    ·       Develop and manage maintenance budgets, including capital expenditures and cost-saving initiatives

    ·       Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards for equipment and infrastructure maintenance

    ·       Coordinates engineering contractors/vendors, assuring insurance and licenses are current

    ·       Conducts regular inspections of life safety systems, including fire extinguishers, fire alarms system and sprinkler systems

    ·       Oversees necessary repairs and maintenance in rooms and common areas including refurbishment for move-ins

    ·       Ensures the outside of the property is maintained, including landscaping, and garbage/trash removal

    ·       Maintains inventory control for all general supplies, parts and equipment for necessary repairs and maintenance

     

    Director of Environmental Services Qualifications:

    ·       5 years’ experience in supervisory positions in Environmental Services, Plant Operations or Maintenance within a healthcare facility 

    ·       Strong technical knowledge of equipment and infrastructure maintenance

    ·       Thorough understanding of OSHA, NFPA and EPA regulations as they pertain to facility operation and maintenance in nursing care facilities

    ·       Extensive knowledge of building systems such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC

    ·       Ability to identify issues and determine repairs and maintenance schedules for building systems

    ·       Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software

    ·       Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards
