Environmental, Health and Safety Director oversees organizational compliance with local, state and federal environment, health and safety regulations. Ensures that environmental policy and procedure manuals are available and updated at all times. Being an Environmental, Health and Safety Director ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Additionally, Environmental, Health and Safety Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a unit/department head. The Environmental, Health and Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Summary of Role:

    SunPower is seeking a Director, Environmental Health & Safety with corporate-wide responsibility for all environmental and occupational health & safety-related functions. The Senior Director, Environmental Health & Safety reports to the COO and will be responsible for operational, administrative, technical, and financial components for a staff of professionals and contractors worldwide.  The candidate will bring strong experience in strategy and operations, being able to implement high-performance EHS programs at the corporate and site levels, as well as advising the senior leadership team at SunPower on EHS performance.  The Senior Director, Environmental Health & Safety provides the leadership and direction to the EHS programs including:

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
    • Serve as a focal point for all EHS-related issues within the corporation.
    • Proactively manage environmental, health & safety activities to comply with all applicable regulations and SunPower standards, prevent injuries to employees, prevent negative impact on the environment, and satisfy customer EHS requirements.
    • Ensure that knowledge and resources are shared between all sites and functions at SunPower.
    • Partner with all applicable SunPower functions to better integrate and leverage resources, including human resources, facilities, security, risk management, quality, finance, logistics, and operations.
    • Ensure that programs are in place at the corporate level and at all sites to:
    • Track laws and regulations and take all necessary action to comply with them in all locations around the world.
    • Promptly and effectively deal with the site EHS issues as they arise.
    • Ensure that necessary environmental monitoring is carried out.
    • Oversee the preparation and submittal of EHS permit applications required for operations.
    • Establish health and safety programs to minimize accidents and loss, with a zero-incidence goal for the corporation.
    • Establish construction-related EHS programs and processes that are safe, environmentally sensitive, and meet regulatory compliance requirements.
    •   Ensure workers’ compensation programs and occupational medical services are efficiently provided to employees.
    • Help design health, safety, and environmental controls and systems for the corporation.
    •   Perform EHS audits of all manufacturing sites and ensure follow-up action/closure of identified deficiencies.
    •   Provide EHS training required by law and SunPower policy and maintain training records.
    • Manage the corporate and site EHS budgets.
    • Interface with EHS-related agencies, vendors, contractors, insurance companies, brokers, and consultants.
    • Facilitate employee involvement in EHS matters throughout the corporation.
    • Work with other departments, such as Risk Management, Finance, Operations, and Facilities, to ensure proper operational fire safety systems and work with the insurer to maintain property loss control programs.
    • Communicate EHS issues to the EVP of Administration and the Executive Management Team in a timely and effective manner.
    • Conduct accident/incident investigations, business interruption and product safety incident investigations, and other significant impact evaluations for the corporation on EHS issues.
    • Ensure that each site’s safety committees and emergency response teams are established and operating properly.
    • Record and report appropriate EHS data.
    • Manage any response actions required in the event of an EHS-related emergency or event.
    • Oversee the Disaster/Emergency Management and Business Continuity Plan for the corporation. 


    Required Qualifications:
    • 12 years of EHS management experience including at least 5 years of managing EHS at the corporate level.
    • BS in science, engineering, or a relevant environmental, health, and safety curriculum required; MS in EHS or engineering and an MBA preferred.
    • Strong written, presentational, influencing, and communication skills.
    • Experience as a “change agent” that can work effectively with all levels of the corporation.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with short product life cycles
    • Strong problem-solving skills
    • Strong knowledge of the semiconductor, electronics, and construction industries, with emphasis on photovoltaic/solar energy products.
    • Strong staff and fiscal management experience.
    • Ability to work with all levels of the corporation in a collegial and relationship-building fashion, and act as a mentor to staff and other departments.
    • Strong technical and regulatory background in environment/sustainability, as well as occupational health and safety and construction safety.
    • Strong knowledge of the semiconductor, electronics, and construction industries, with emphasis on photovoltaic/solar energy products.
    • Strong staff and fiscal management experience.
    • Ability to work with all levels of the corporation in a collegial and relationship-building fashion, and act as a mentor to staff and other departments.

    $184,831 - $277,247 a year
    Please note the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for this position only and in the geographical location noted. The base pay for this position ranges from $184,831/year to $277,247/year. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
