    Summary

    This role plans and manages the environmental compliance programs under senior management direction, specifically related to the implementation of the RCRA (hazardous waste) consent decree (Bevill consent decree) in both the plant production and gypsum stack areas. This role implements environmental compliance strategies including policies, procedures, and systems to maintain and enhance environmental performance. Collaborates with internal stakeholders including engineering and operations to improve monitoring, automated controls, and other systems to ensure environmental compliance. Coordinates root cause analysis for compliance incidents and implementation of the corrective actions. This role will be the liaison between the environmental, operations, engineering, and maintenance departments regarding Bevill and will be the subject matter expert for the facility. They will partner with the business to work through complex environmental situations, support and offer guidance across the enterprise as needed, and support strategies aligned to sustainability efforts.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Largely responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental compliance measures required under the Bevill consent decree as well as assists management in interpreting and applying technical regulatory requirements on production operations.
    • Interacts with regulatory and/or government agencies to ensure environmental compliance at the plant and/or project level.
    • Must keep fully informed of new developments in regulatory changes in environmental requirements. Responsible for assuring effective utilization of personnel and responding promptly to the needs of plant operations.
    • Leads compliance projects at operating sites.
    • Prepares budgetary and detailed cost estimates, economic analyses for projects, and appropriation requests.
    • Manages all aspects of the installation of projects and programs.

    Typical Education

    • Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4-year college or university preferred

    Relevant Experience

    • 5 years related experience and/or training
    • Environmental expertise in industrial and/or consulting fields preferred
    • Experience interfacing with and ability to maintain strong relationships with regulatory agencies
    • Project management experience
    • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple tasks and assess priorities effectively
    • Strong problem solving and analysis skills
    • Proficient skills in MS Office, spreadsheets, Operations database applications, presentations, drafting programs.
    • Ability to read technical/legal information and effectively communicate complex issues verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to develop and conduct environmental training for all employees.
