    Olberding Environmental is currently seeking applications for full and part-time Biological Monitors for various projects in the San Francisco Bay area. Current work locations include sites throughout Alameda, Contra Costa, San Benito and Marin counties. This is a seasonal field based position (April-October) but has the likelihood of extending past October and has the possibility of transitioning to a full-time staff level position. Monitor duties includes performing biological surveys and monitoring construction projects to assure compliance with biological requirements related to regulatory agency permit conditions. Depending on project site location, our biological monitors will be working with a variety of species including but not limited to California red-legged frog, California tiger salamander, burrowing owl, Alameda whipsnake, giant garter snake, western pond turtle, San Joaquin kit fox, California clapper rail, black rail, salt marsh harvest mouse, various raptors, passerine bird species as well as general wildlife species encountered in the Bay Area.

    Duties may include surveying and monitoring for sensitive biological resources and special-status species, inspecting work sites for compliance with resource agency permits, coordinating with project team members and construction supervisors and crewmembers, providing environmental training to construction crews, and preparing daily field monitoring reports.

    Field work is extensive, and may require long hours walking over rough terrain to conduct surveys and monitoring in potentially challenging terrain and variable adverse weather conditions.

    This is an entry-level position requiring a B.S. or M.S. in biology, wildlife ecology, environmental science or related natural resource field. Applicant should have a working knowledge of key environmental regulations and statutes (e.g., CEQA/NEPA, Endangered Species Act, MBTA, Clean Water Act, Fish and Game Code). Scientific Collection Permit and Endangered species 10a1A permits highly desired. Prior biological construction monitoring experience is preferred, but candidates with relevant experience will be considered. Demonstrated field experience with California flora and fauna expected. Excellent communication and writing skills are required. Candidate should be detailed-oriented, self-motivated, independent, reliable and have a strong work ethic. Reliable transportation to field sites is required. Starting salary at $22-$30/hour based on experience.
