    Nature of Work

    The fundamental reason this classification exists is to provide advanced analysis of technical data and major project work in the field of City planning and/or development. Planners II are responsible for major planning functions or projects requiring combinations of skill in research, analysis, development, presentation, or interpretation of concepts and data pertaining to planning and implementation of plans. Major responsibilities include conducting studies, preparing plans and strategies, interfacing with the public, and performing various administrative tasks.� Planner IIs work in the Planning and City Development Departments. Work is performed with general instructions from a supervisor with considerable latitude for independent initiative and judgment.� They are often privy to highly confidential materials such as negotiations with potential developers and the financial information related to that developer.� The Planner II position is distinguished from the Senior Planner classification by the latter's responsibility for handling the most complex and/or controversial planning assignments and acting as a lead resource in a major functional planning area. The Planner II position is distinguished from the Planner I classification in that Planner Is are typically in training and handling the more routine or basic planning projects under close supervision.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree with major course work in urban and regional planning, city planning, transportation engineering, geography, or a similar field and two years of professional public planning experience involving urban planning, program development, strategic planning, research, analytical applications, or related experience. ����������� NOTE:�Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

    Kind of Examination

The current vacancy is with the�City of Montgomery Planning Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based on the education and experience on their online applications.
