Environmental Planner plans, prepares, and monitors environmental research and evaluates potential impact of assigned projects. Ensures environmental projects are in compliance with the state and federal regulations. Being an Environmental Planner estimate the level of pollutants involving air, land, and water to devise mitigating measures. Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Additionally, Environmental Planner typically reports to a supervisor. To be an Environmental Planner typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Environmental Engineering Technician 1
  • Environmental Conservation, Department of
  • Schenectady, NY FULL_TIME
  • Four years of experience in technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, or sanitary engineering technology; environmental technology; geology or geology technology; or as a surveyor or a drafter;
    OR
    graduation from high school and one year of qualifying experience;
    OR
    graduation from a high school technical education program in aeronautics, architectural drafting, chemistry, electricity, electronics, mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design, technical instrumentation and control systems, or computer circuitry;
    OR
    18 college semester credit hours in any combination of the following: engineering, geology, environmental science, natural or physical science, drafting, mathematics, or surveying.


    Duties Description

    The incumbent will be responsible for performing detailed site inspections to evaluate existing conditions, and compliance with the Mined Land Reclamation Law and regulations, approved plans and permit conditions; issuing inspection letters and Notices of Violation; assessing reclamation work, including grading, revegetation, water control features, etc., at mine sites to ensure compliance with approved plans, and to approve reclamation work or require remedial actions where appropriate; investigating mining complaints, including but not limited to, mining outside approved areas at permitted sites, dust, noise, etc.; and calculating reclamation financial security amounts to ensure the performance of reclamation

    Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.

    This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2024, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
