Under direction of the Operations Manager, the Branch Service Coordinator directs and supervises the daily activities of all mechanics, ensures service department operates efficiently, completes trailer repairs and assists with parts sales and inventory maintenance.
Essential Functions:
- Must be able to properly prioritize, implement and manage work schedules, projects and assignments.
- Instruct, assist and train service technicians in best practices of equipment repair and safety
- Perform inspections of completed repairs to ensure thorough and quality of work performed
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes
- Work in cooperation with other areas to provide quality, seamless customer service
- Schedules service and maintenance of equipment in the workshop and/or customer job site; including coordinating response to breakdowns with road technicians
- Monitors all equipment, ensuring that all repairs have been properly designated to the account of a customer, supplier or the profit center
- Manage purchase orders on the monthly basis and reconcile
- Authorize and arrange purchase of supplies, tools, uniforms and machinery and contracts for repair services not performed in shop
- Maintain all vehicle inspections, maintenance and safety records required by federal, state or local agencies and company policies.
- Inspect, diagnose and perform mechanical repairs related to electrical and other defects on flatbed and van semi-trailers
- Industrial and fabrication repairs; a basic knowledge of air brakes, axles and suspensions is preferred
- Knowledge in adjusting and replacing brakes, suspensions, alignments, and basic knowledge of air systems is a plus
- Ability to perform refrigeration unit inspections and repairs is a plus
- Basic knowledge and experience with welding steel and aluminum is preferred
- Assist external customers at the parts counter or on the telephone, as well as internal customers from the sales and service departments
- Process vendor parts orders from finding the parts, to creating purchase orders and receiving parts into the inventory system
- Maintain, organize, and stock parts in the showroom and warehouse
- Refer to parts manuals (both hard copy and electronic format) to identify the correct parts for the make, model and year of trailer being serviced
- Serve as backup to other parts counterperson or stocking shelves as necessary
- Occasional parts pick-up or delivery
- Other duties as assigned
Skills / Qualifications:
- Ability to work with hands to perform data entry, organization of inventory, use of power tools and driving of company vehicle and or forklifts
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Proficient with computers, data entry and MS Office
- Loading and unloading of parts requiring the ability to lift up to 50Ibs
- Valid drivers’ license
Preferred education and experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 5 years' experience in the trailer service industry
