Collects, analysis, and interprets disease data using appropriate statistical and research methods. Being an Epidemiologist reviews sterilization, disinfection and waste control techniques and recommends changes as needed. Develops and coordinates effective and practical interventions and procedures to control and prevent disease in the community or facility. Additionally, Epidemiologist typically requires a master's degree of microbiology. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Epidemiologist contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Responsible for assisting with the planning, directing, and managing the activities, operations, and staff of the Epidemiology unit; serves as medical community liaison; performs investigation of complex cases and outbreaks and provides expert consultation.
This is a management-level position, and may include being the subject matter expert in the areas of clinical epidemiology, outbreaks, and disease investigations.
Analyzes epidemiological data, interprets the results to identify communicable disease patterns in the community, and contributes to the development of disease control interventions and prevention strategies.
Evaluates and investigates unusual disease reports from laboratories, physicians, and others.
Participates in field investigations at hospitals, physician offices, laboratories, clinics, food establishments, childcare facilities, or other locations as necessary to complete medical epidemiologic investigations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Medical Doctorate Degree: AND four (4) years of professional experience in public health or healthcare setting focused on epidemiological investigations or population health two (2) years of which were in a supervisory role; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
