Epidemiologist monitors and investigates known or suspected sources and transmission of communicable diseases. Collects, analysis, and interprets disease data using appropriate statistical and research methods. Being an Epidemiologist reviews sterilization, disinfection and waste control techniques and recommends changes as needed. Develops and coordinates effective and practical interventions and procedures to control and prevent disease in the community or facility. Additionally, Epidemiologist typically requires a master's degree of microbiology. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Epidemiologist contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.     Brief Duties and Responsibilities: Perform disease surveillance and reporting capacity within Walla Walla County. Present epidemiological information to the public in small and large group settings. The position requires the capacity to clearly present complex epidemiological information in a form that can be understood by a wide variety of audiences. Position is part of department team that collects, assess, and evaluate data from assessments such as Community Health Assessment and Community Health Improvement Plan and other assessments as designated.

    Working Environment/Physical Abilities:
    The working environment includes activities in multiple department venues. Physical abilities required for this position are ones typically related to office and field operations, sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to twenty (20) pounds. Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate computers, other office equipment, accessing file cabinets both on and off site, and sufficient hearing and speech ability to communicate verbally, and the ability to drive a motor vehicle.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in public health, health informatics, science, epidemiology, public policy or health policy, or closely related field.
