Being an Epidemiologist reviews sterilization, disinfection and waste control techniques and recommends changes as needed. Develops and coordinates effective and practical interventions and procedures to control and prevent disease in the community or facility. Additionally, Epidemiologist typically requires a master's degree of microbiology. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Epidemiologist contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.     Overview:


    The CDC Foundation seeks candidates for a full-time Epidemiologist I/II to support the Arizona Department of Health Services’ Office of Healthcare-Associated Infections. This position serves as an entry-level professional epidemiologist responsible for carrying out a range of investigative and analytical epidemiologic activities related to the surveillance, detection, and prevention of diseases and injuries. This position reports to the HAI Prevention and Response Program Manager.

    Qualifications:


    ● Minimum Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, or a science-related field with up to two years of relevant data analysis experience or a Master’s in Public Health or a science-related field. (Preference given to degrees from an accredited University and/or School of Public Health.)

    ● Proficient knowledge of epidemiological principles and statistical analysis methods.

    ● Proficient knowledge of concepts, principles, methods, and techniques of administering public health programs.

    ● Proficient knowledge of advanced communication skills; oral and written.

    ● Proficient knowledge of database management, data analysis, and program evaluation.

    ● Skill in understanding research methods, procedures and techniques used in identifying and evaluating the health of populations, their characteristics, contemporary medical methods and practices, proper principles and procedures when conducting health or determinants surveillance and epidemiologic investigations.

    ● Ability to use critical thinking to determine whether a public health problem exists, articulate need for further investigation or other public health action on statutes, rules, policy and potential health impact.

    ● Basic understanding of systems and procedures necessary for surveillance and investigation of infectious and chronic diseases.

    ● Ability to analyze and interpret data from surveillance and investigations and recommend evidence-based interventions and control measures in response to findings.

    Responsibilities:


    ● Collecting, analyzing, and creating reports of healthcare-associated infections and outbreak data.

    ● Conducting routine epidemiologic functions comprising surveillance, data collection, data analysis using epidemiologic methods, and assistance with epidemiologic investigations.

    ● Conducting epidemiologic investigations used in preventing and controlling specific communicable and chronic diseases, injuries, and other health conditions and applies findings to direct public health programs and recommend interventions and/or control measures.

    ● Performs statistical analyses of data sets using analytic tools.

    ● Presents quality data sets and reports findings by using data visualizations programs and/or visual tools i.e. graphs, charts, and maps.

    ● Maintains confidentiality of sensitive data sets and reports.

    ● Use of database and track systems to manage data collection, data entry, and analysis of surveillance programs.

    ● Monitors and evaluates data collection procedures to ensure that quality control measures are sustained.

    ● Assisting with preparing reports from analyses of surveillance data, literature reviews, and other information using behavioral science, demographic and epidemiologic analytic techniques, and program evaluation.

    ● Providing scientific and clinical guidance and technical assistance to various public, private, and nonprofit health and health-related state and local agencies and organizations.

    ● Participating in internal and external committees and workgroups related to areas of expertise.

    ● Serving as a scientific consultant for a public health program or project.

    ● Employee will be expected to make independent decisions and judgements based on their educational and professional experience and training; this position maintains and shares information and data of a very confidential nature.

    ● Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and reliable private transportation.



    Special Notes:


    This position requires the operation of a motor vehicle as a component of the job responsibilities and duties. In adherence with CDC Foundation’s Driver Safety Motor Vehicle Policy (“Policy”), offers for employment for this position require the Applicant to provide authorization to the CDC Foundation to conduct a Motor Vehicle Record (“MVR”) review both pre-employment and also annually post-employment while in this position. Additionally, if an offer of employment is accepted, employees in these positions must possess and maintain a valid driver's license in their state of residence, self-report motor vehicle violations/convictions,

    and provide proof of acceptable insurance coverage with mandatory minimum coverages as set forth within the Driver Safety Motor Vehicle policy. All offers of employment and continued employment for this position are contingent upon meeting all minimum qualifications of this Policy.


    This role is involved in a dynamic public health program. As such, roles and responsibilities are subject to change as situations evolve. Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and Arizona Department of Health Services, in order to best support the State of Arizona in their public health programming.


    This position is Hybrid and located in Arizona. CDC Foundation retains the right to make adjustments to this as required.
