Collects, analysis, and interprets disease data using appropriate statistical and research methods. Being an Epidemiologist reviews sterilization, disinfection and waste control techniques and recommends changes as needed. Develops and coordinates effective and practical interventions and procedures to control and prevent disease in the community or facility. Additionally, Epidemiologist typically requires a master's degree of microbiology. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Epidemiologist contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. The Epidemiologist will support the 24/7 Health Operations Center and Public Health Team to investigate and analyze infectious illnesses, including COVID-19, for the Carnival Corporation’s combined fleets of nine Brands with over 90 ships that carry over 12 million travelers per year and employ over 100,000 crew members. They will report illnesses of concern and any disease associations to the Director, Health Operations Center and Director, Public Health and as required, liaise directly with local, regional and national health authorities. In conjunction with the HOC and Director, Public Health, they will plan and direct interventions to prevent and control the spread of communicable illnesses. They will collect and analyze data through clinical record reviews, observations, interviews, surveys and data mining and distribute analytical reports of disease activity to stakeholders. They will assist in the development of public health programs that control communicable diseases by drafting policies and procedures, tracking disease activity, analyzing data, and recommending ways to strengthen programs to improve public health outcomes. They will assist shipboard medical staff with case investigations and contact tracing. They will plan and coordinate vaccination campaigns including dissemination of educational material and patient information to maximize vaccination uptake. They will regularly monitor public health requirements for cruise ship travelers, including COVID-19 and other illnesses such as Yellow Fever, and communicate requirements and recommendations to stakeholders.
