Equipment Director directs the management of company equipment including procurement activities, preventative maintenance, repair/replacement and safety assurance. Manages the records, licenses, inspections, warrantees, and service agreements for the organization's equipment and tools. Being an Equipment Director minimizes organizational cost through product standardization and tracking. Document and tracks equipment performance throughout the product lifetime. Additionally, Equipment Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Equipment Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be an Equipment Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     Job Outline

    Reports to the Service Manager and is responsible for the effective repair of machinery and

    components at high levels of quality. This individual works under direct supervision.

    a) Recondition and repair all equipment components and systems as assigned by the shop

    foreman.

    b) Maintain good working records for time, parts, supplies, and outside purchases in repairs.

    c) Maintain and care for shop tools, equipment, and vehicles.

    d) Communicate with others professionally.

    Also,

    • Enforce all policies and procedures as specified in the company manuals.
    • Maintain high employee morale.
    • Maintain excellent customer and employee relations.

    Duties

    1) Recondition and Repair Equipment and Components.

    1. Plan methods and sequence of performing repairs assigned.
    2. Order all parts and materials required to perform assigned repairs.
    3. Effect the repairs required in a safe and effective manner.
    4. Ensure that all repairs are completed as assigned.
    5. Ensure the cosmetic appearance upon completion as required.
    6. Ensure all parts and materials not used are returned per guidelines.
    7. Maintain the work area in a clean and safe condition.

    2) Maintain Good Working Records for Time, Parts, Supplies, and Outside Purchases in Repairs.

    1. All record-keeping methods are followed per instructions.
    2. All cost-related items are included in the job work order.
    3. Ensure all records kept are legible or in compliance with established methods.

    3) Maintain and Care for Shop Tools, Equipment, and Vehicles.

    1. All specialty tools used on the job are obtained using the methods established.
    2. All tools and special equipment used on repairs are clean before returning them.
    3. All specialty tools used on jobs are returned to the original location in working condition.

    4) Communicate with Others Professionally.

    1. All communications with customers shall be conducted in a manner reflecting respect and honesty.
    2. All communications with co-workers shall be conducted following the “golden rule”.

    Job Requisites

    The individual in this position should be personable, a problem solver, a leader of people, ethical, intelligent, and able to adapt to all of the forces around them - customers, suppliers, department employees, co-workers, and manufacturers employees.

    Education/Training/Experience

    A technical school certificate or equivalent in mechanical repairs.

    General skill requisites

    • Strong mechanical skills.
    • Good communications skills.
    • Good, safe work habits.

    Specific skill requisites

    • A good working knowledge of equipment operations and mechanical functions.
    • Able to perform repairs for all major equipment systems.
