Equipment Engineering Director directs equipment engineering activities within an organization. Plans and develops policies and procedures for designing, developing and implementing equipment. Additionally, Equipment Engineering Director typically reports to top engineering management. The Equipment Engineering Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be an Equipment Engineering Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.   • Job Purpose:

    Lead and direct the product engineering team responsible for manufacturing laser diodes and associated assemblies.

    Duties:

    • Lead and direct the product engineering team consisting of Product Engineering Managers and Product Development Engineers
    • Responsibility of product engineering team:
    • Product performance, specifications, and capability
    • Monitor product performance against specifications and process capabilities
    • Determine feasibility of new product requests
    • Define product configurations to meet requirements
    • Product yield reporting – Manage and generate yield reports to inform organization. Lead teams to resolve yield issues in manufacturing
    • Product qualification – Generate qualification test plans, execute plan and generate qualification reports
    • Product manufacturability and cost – Lead Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Cost processes. Act as liaison between design team and process engineers and influence design decision to meet product needs.
    • Risks – Complete product level risk assessments and lead mitigation actions
    • Product configuration – Manage product configuration for all parts in manufacturing, manage revision changes as needed.
    • Product cost reporting – Manage and generate cost reports to inform the organization. Lead teams in cost reduction exercises.
    • Product test and inspection definition – Responsible for defining test and inspection requirements for completed products.
    • Failure analysis – Review non-conforming product root cause analysis. Lead teams to add controls to mitigate failures.
    • Interface with current and potential customers on product capabilities.
    • Lead coordination of product release from pilot production phase to production.
    • Prepare, coordinate, and deliver product presentations
    • Travel to customers, vendors, and conferences for support of activities related to products.


    Skills/Qualifications:

    Must have a degree in Engineering, Physics or related field with a minimum of ten years of industry experience. Must have a proven history of strong leadership skills. Cross-functional team leader experience is a plus. Must be detail oriented with good organization skills. Must use computer methods for technical problem solving and project planning. Must have experience in successfully moving a project/process/product to manufacturing.
