Equipment Manager manages daily operations for the equipment procurement, inventory management and maintenance function. Tracks the records, licenses, inspections, warrantees, and service agreements for the organization's equipment and tools. Being an Equipment Manager minimizes organizational cost through product standardization and tracking. Tracks equipment quality throughout the product lifetime and makes recommendations for alternatives if needed. Additionally, Equipment Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Equipment Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes.     Our construction equipment group is seeking a full-time Rental Manager for our Joliet, IL branch. This role is responsible for the efficient & profitable operation of the branch rental department. This individual will advise and make recommendations to the Operations Manager with respect to the best interest of the branch rental department whenever & wherever activities of the company are involved.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Decision making: Analyzes machine revenue vs. expense and recommends rental rate structure; analyzes driving costs and recommends appropriate changes; analyzes various manufactures equipment and recommends suitable new products; records customer requests and recommends additional services to meet requirements; reviews equipment utilization and recommends inventory adjustments; monitors competitive activity and recommends suitable responses.
    • Supervisory: Selects and hires personnel; clarifies duties and responsibilities of all department employees; motivates employees toward greater productivity; utilizes people and equipment resources in an efficient manner; resolves employee complaints; ensures compliance with all applicable OSHA and other safety standards.
    • External communications: Answers customer questions quickly, clearly and competitively; handles complaints on a timely basis; maintains positive communication
    with manufacturers and other vendors.
    • Internal communication: Provides adequate notice to service department for upcoming machine requirements; provides office personnel with credit/insurance verification reports on a timely basis; works with all company personnel to drive profitability; works with sales department on demonstrations and delivery/pickup of new equipment; works with service department on delivery/pickup of customer equipment.
    • Technical knowledge: Knows rental equipment well; knows truck specifications and proper machine & auto maintenance requirements.
    • Difficulties and emergencies: Knows how to take action during a crisis (equipment failure, etc.); copes with unexpected work and work flow requirements; make proper decision relative to weather and driving conditions.
    • Administrative practices: Maintenance of accurate and current records; verification of customers credit and insurance; properly prepares rental information sheets; ensures equipment rented is "rental ready”; properly prepares and follows all policies and procedures in relation to the rental department; obtains permits, licenses and other such necessary documents on a timely basis; prepares daily driver schedules.
    • Insure that all rental equipment, shop equipment, & delivery vehicles are in safe operating condition and in compliance with all licensing, inspection, OSHA & FHA rules
    & regulations.
    • Prepare, develop, and execute self/employee & training and product knowledge for all rental department personnel. Insures the company meets contract requirements for all unionized employees.
    • Overall responsibility of entire branch truck fleet. Insures all vehicles are being maintained properly in good mechanical condition and in compliance with all government safety requirements. Makes recommendations regarding the purchase and maintenance of vehicles and trailers.
    • Makes Recommendations to Branch Manager for any Building/Facility issues or upgrades that are needed.
    • Develops annual objectives for the branch rental department to include customer service, proper and acceptable inventory levels, acceptable expenses, and revenue goals. Prepares an annual budget/business plan for the department.
    • Attends instructional/educational seminars, annual business meetings as required, & association events to promote business/departmental growth & development.
    Physical Demands/Work Environment:
    • Must be able to lift 90lbs, 50% of the time, in order to load/unload equipment.
    • Must be knowledgeable about the operation of a personal computer, Business system, & Microsoft Office.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in business management or related field preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ rental department experience.
    • Possesses a clear understanding of the Rental Department and all related activities.
    • Possesses excellent problem solving, administration, and management skills.
