Estimating Director leads the estimating function and develops standards, procedures, tools, and methodologies to produce cost estimates for technical projects based on work scope, specifications, and proposal or contract requirements. Establishes processes to perform analysis of project requirements, plans, and specifications to identify labor, material, equipment, and service requirements. Being an Estimating Director incorporates benchmark data, trends, and historical pricing to generate detailed cost estimates that consist of itemized lists of expenses, labor hours, material quantities, and potential cost variations. Develops a workflow and system for scheduling and processing estimate requests and communicating with stakeholders. Additionally, Estimating Director depending on the complexity and type of project, may use different estimating methods, mathematical models, or specialized estimating software tools to generate estimates. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Estimating Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. This role will help support our customers by aligning our global resources with their needs through accurately quoting precision machined parts and assemblies through our global partners. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in accurately estimating costs associated with high level manufacturing projects, in a timely fashion.
Position Responsibilities:
Evaluate and manage quote requests from new and existing customers
Analyze project specifications, drawings, and materials to accurately estimate manufacturing costs, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead
Collaborate with cross-functional teams while developing competitive bids and proposals ensuring profitability and adherence to quality standards
Prepare and submit competitive bids and proposals, ensuring compliance with client quality requirements and industry standards
Identify and source materials and components from the most valuable sources while evaluating supplier quotes and negotiating prices to optimize cost-effectiveness while managing risk
Collaborate with engineers and project managers to identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving alternatives without compromising quality
Coordinate with Operations, Quality and Engineering to develop a unique engineered solution to meet our customers’ needs
For critical projects develop Gantt charts to track project milestones and coordinate meetings to address bottlenecks
Assist to develop and refine parametric cost modeling to increase our quote accuracy and throughput while maintaining/loading our cost modeling tools
The ideal candidate would possess the following:
A proficiency in estimating precision machined parts in a fast-paced environment – minimum of 3-5 years’ experience with a strong focus on cost, profit margin, and attention to detail
A Mechanical Engineering Degree is preferred
A minimum of 5 years of precision machining experience in the manufacturing industry
Secondary process knowledge for plating, heat treating, grinding, welding, painting
A knowledge of metallurgy, castings, forgings, assembly, and cold heading
The ability to pull together data from multiple sources while managing multiple projects at once
The ability to communicate effectively through emails and with strong interpersonal skills
Able to travel approximately 10%
Ability to communicate with our global teams after business hours (as needed)
Must be able to work on ITAR restricted information - US Citizen or green card holder
