Estimating Director leads the estimating function and develops standards, procedures, tools, and methodologies to produce cost estimates for technical projects based on work scope, specifications, and proposal or contract requirements. Establishes processes to perform analysis of project requirements, plans, and specifications to identify labor, material, equipment, and service requirements. Being an Estimating Director incorporates benchmark data, trends, and historical pricing to generate detailed cost estimates that consist of itemized lists of expenses, labor hours, material quantities, and potential cost variations. Develops a workflow and system for scheduling and processing estimate requests and communicating with stakeholders. Additionally, Estimating Director depending on the complexity and type of project, may use different estimating methods, mathematical models, or specialized estimating software tools to generate estimates. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Estimating Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Estimating Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     The Purpose:

    Czarnowski is looking for a National Director of Estimating. In this role, you will manage the national estimating department throughout the estimating process. This includes managing team members and processes for interpreting three-dimensional design/CAD images and developing estimated fabrication cost proposals while clearly and concisely writing the project scope. This position requires individuals to manage multiple projects consecutively and work both independently and with team members. This is an exciting opportunity where you will have the ability to assist and put your own stamp on process improvement of the bottom line for Czarnowski.

    The Job:

    • Develop in-depth pricing strategies, including fabrication methodology, interfacing between design, new business development, production, account, and project management
    • Attend design launch meetings and monitor the design process, as well as advise on budget
    • Attend launch meetings to ensure compliance and methodology of estimates are intact
    • Manage a diverse team of estimators across the Czarnowski footprint
      • Hire and train team members
      • Direct management of estimating staff
      • Establish and manage show services estimating group
      • Establish and manage tracking for projects throughout the estimating cycle
      • Regularly report on estimating projects to Operations Team
      • Participate in project Post Mortems to improve accuracy and process of future estimates
    • Maintain and update estimate templates, both as a master and as client MSA templates
    • Monitor and approve estimates prior to client submission
      • Ensure accuracy
      • Ensure compliance with Czarnowski Standards
      • Ensure margin targets are met
    • Provide Written Estimates
      • Develop well thought through production activities to establish cost parameters
      • Provide raw material requirements by component
      • Establish estimate format and breakdown
      • Write concise detailed description of project components
      • Consult with Director of Rental Services and or Director Acct Services to determine MSA (master sales agreement) or rate structure
      • Develop SWAG estimates for quick reference and cost guidance
      • Provide change order estimates as requested
    • Submittals for Outsourced goods
      • Provide clearly defined scope documents for outsource pricing
      • Obtain and evaluation of bid documents
      • Recommendations to project team of vendor selection
    • Show Services Estimate
      • Review show kit to determine various field service rates
      • Work with account team to determine schedule
      • Consult Show destination City Manager to review project and obtain labor estimate
      • Consult Director of AV and Technology to obtain AV/lighting estimates when required
      • Consult with Logistics/Freight Manager to obtain freight estimates
    • Estimate Review
      • Review completed estimates with sales team
      • Develop margin expectation
      • Review completed project cost against original estimate
      • Observe the production of estimated projects to monitor estimate compliance
    • General tasks
      • Maintain updated cost awareness of standard fabrication materials
      • Explore new materials and fabrication techniques
      • Provide cost guidance and alternative fabrication ideas to design
      • Maintain log/schedule of current estimate projects
      • Maintain electronic file folders.

    The Person:

    • 10 years of Estimating experience with 3 years of people management experience.
    • Strong working knowledge of exhibit/museum fabrication techniques and a vast knowledge of manufacturing applications.
    • Creative thinker to provide pricing options to satisfy challenging budget restrictions.
    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with a keen eye for detail and risk mitigation.
    • Strong understanding of construction costs, market trends, and subcontractor pricing.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Exceptional in organization, time management, and attention to detail, with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
    • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and cross-functional departments.
    • Demonstrated ability to make decisions based on sound business reasoning.
    • Ability to manage changing situations effectively.
    • Occasional travel.
