Estimating Director leads the estimating function and develops standards, procedures, tools, and methodologies to produce cost estimates for technical projects based on work scope, specifications, and proposal or contract requirements. Establishes processes to perform analysis of project requirements, plans, and specifications to identify labor, material, equipment, and service requirements. Being an Estimating Director incorporates benchmark data, trends, and historical pricing to generate detailed cost estimates that consist of itemized lists of expenses, labor hours, material quantities, and potential cost variations. Develops a workflow and system for scheduling and processing estimate requests and communicating with stakeholders. Additionally, Estimating Director depending on the complexity and type of project, may use different estimating methods, mathematical models, or specialized estimating software tools to generate estimates. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Estimating Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Estimating Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     PURPOSE:

    Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President for Development, the Director of Development engages, cultivates, solicits, and stewards alumni, parents, and friends who have the capacity to make either major direct or planned gifts to CSU Monterey Bay.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Builds and manages a portfolio of 75-125 prospective donors for major gift commitments for identified CSU Monterey Bay fundraising objectives: to include identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. Conducts 12 to 15 field contacts per month. Develops written engagement and solicitation strategies; moves prospective donors through the traditional cultivation, solicitation and stewardship cycle recording actions in a moves management system.
    • Supports the portfolios of assigned academic college or program working closely with the Dean, faculty, director and staff.
    • Supports the Annual Gift program with her/his assigned prospects.
    • Assists the Associate Vice President for University Development in the preparation and implementation of a development strategic plan.
    • Assists the entire University Development Office in its functions and coordination of activities, including coordinating with other offices of the University.
    • Participates in the activities of committees and organizations to ensure that appropriate development policies, procedures and safeguards exist and function in the best interest of the University.
    • Supervises assigned support staff providing evaluations and feedback for all areas of responsibility.
    • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Knowledge of: fundraising techniques, proposal development, prospect identification, prospect research and cultivation, fund solicitation, donor recognition and stewardship. Thorough knowledge of modern management and administrative techniques related to the development and implementation of appropriate methods of work planning, scheduling and coordination in a team environment to meet changing organizational objectives.

    Ability to: rapidly become familiar with university-wide program areas; strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills; possess excellent organizational and planning skills, with superior attention to detail; demonstrate maturity and unquestionable integrity; work and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a broad range of internal and external constituents; maintain confidential information; and navigate sensitive situations; and establish and maintain effective working relationships.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Three (3) years of demonstrated success record of successful closure of major gifts of $25,000 and greater and increased responsibility in sales or major gift officer in higher education, academic medical institution or nonprofit organization.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Five (5) years of additional related annual fund, major or principal gift experience. Demonstrated success in philanthropic community engagement.
    • Fundraising/donor relations or sales experience in support of Institutional priorities. Knowledge of the local philanthropic community.
    • Experience working in higher education. Technical fluency with Microsoft Office Professional Suite, Raiser's Edge, and Google mail and calendaring programs.

    • Must possess and maintain a valid license to drive in the State of California, pass the Defensive Training Class, and be insurable under the University's liability coverage.
    • Due to the nature of the work, this position requires the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, on a regular basis.
