Estimating Director leads the estimating function and develops standards, procedures, tools, and methodologies to produce cost estimates for technical projects based on work scope, specifications, and proposal or contract requirements. Establishes processes to perform analysis of project requirements, plans, and specifications to identify labor, material, equipment, and service requirements. Being an Estimating Director incorporates benchmark data, trends, and historical pricing to generate detailed cost estimates that consist of itemized lists of expenses, labor hours, material quantities, and potential cost variations. Develops a workflow and system for scheduling and processing estimate requests and communicating with stakeholders. Additionally, Estimating Director depending on the complexity and type of project, may use different estimating methods, mathematical models, or specialized estimating software tools to generate estimates. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Estimating Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Then this is the right role for you! W.M. Schultz Construction Inc is seeking a full-time (8am-5pm Mon-Fri) Construction/Estimating Intern for the Fall Semester (August-December 2023) to provide estimating support for bid opportunities and daily assistance to the project management team.
This role is responsible for contacting subcontractors and vendors to obtain quotes, developing takeoffs, ordering materials, developing RFIs, and facilitating M/DBE contact logs. As an intern, you will provide crucial support to our project management team and gain experience in the pre-construction phase of diverse and complex projects.
Schultz is a leading heavy civil contractor with main operations in Saratoga County, NY. We specialize in building water and wastewater treatment plants, deep underground pipelines, pump stations, whole bridge replacements - the actual project type can vary as long as the work is complex & demanding! The successful candidate must be a motivated self-starter and work well in an office environment that is fast paced, professional, and goal oriented.
This role is intended to be a steppingstone into an Assistant Estimator/Assistant Project Manager position. Travel to job site(s) within a 1-2 hour radius of Albany may be required. A company vehicle will be provided for business related travel.
