Estimating Director leads the estimating function and develops standards, procedures, tools, and methodologies to produce cost estimates for technical projects based on work scope, specifications, and proposal or contract requirements. Establishes processes to perform analysis of project requirements, plans, and specifications to identify labor, material, equipment, and service requirements. Being an Estimating Director incorporates benchmark data, trends, and historical pricing to generate detailed cost estimates that consist of itemized lists of expenses, labor hours, material quantities, and potential cost variations. Develops a workflow and system for scheduling and processing estimate requests and communicating with stakeholders. Additionally, Estimating Director depending on the complexity and type of project, may use different estimating methods, mathematical models, or specialized estimating software tools to generate estimates. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Estimating Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Estimating Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     POSITION SUMMARY

    The Estimating Manager at AWP will build quality relationships to secure profitable business partners to support the business unit. Responsibilities include reviewing and clarification of proposals, negotiating projects, completing proposals including bid documents, determining the project’s scope, and evaluating special conditions affecting the proposal. This role will collaborate with the Operations Department to ensure the accuracy of quotes as well as prospecting for business opportunities.


    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Analyze all available information to compile into a proposal estimate
    • Attend external pre-bid meetings to determine the scope of work
    • Determine key variables for cost and other estimates
    • Complete proposals including bid documents, determining the project’s scope, and evaluating special conditions affecting the proposal (including site conditions, access, personnel, and equipment needs)
    • Review and clarify proposals and negotiate projects
    • Prepare estimates based on time, labor requirements, equipment costs, and specifications
    • Create and submit estimate reports or bids to appropriate persons (project managers, clients, bidding competitions, etc.)
    • Obtain and track offers and quotes by subcontractors or vendors
    • Prepare preliminary schedules for all successfully awarded projects
    • Manage multiple project estimates simultaneously
    • Develop relationships with current and potential customers in a sales capacity
    • Involved in peer engagement, mentoring, and on-the-job training
    • Secure profitable business to support business unit
    • Verify the customer quote and work with the Operations Team to ensure the customer is provided what was quoted
    • Attend meetings and functions to engage with customers, individually and with associations- such as the Association of general contractors
    • Regular customers lunches to build and maintain the relationship
    • Prospect for business opportunities, much like a salesperson would
    • Gain technical knowledge required for all aspects of traffic control
    • Gain knowledge of AWP products to present and position to the customer
    • Gain knowledge of all aspects of traffic control as governed by standards of local, state, and federal agencies
    • Working knowledge of all AWP products and services
    • Other duties and/or special projects as assigned


    QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION

    • High School Diploma or GED required
    • 2 or 4-year college degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred
    • Minimum of 1-year construction industry experience preferred
    • Organized with an intense focus on accuracy and attention to detail
    • Problem-solving skills and critical thinking skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as meticulous attention to detail
    • Ability to develop, foster, and manage customer relationships
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite Products (Excel, Word). Experience with Salesforce software preferred

    The employee must be able to successfully handle the physical demands of this position, which include the following:

    • The work schedule is predicated upon workload- In-office role
    • 40 hour workweek
    • Primarily sedentary or working at a desk
    • Occasionally lift and move 10 -25 pounds
    • Proficient literacy
    • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, or reach with hands and arms
