Estimating Manager manages the estimating function and develops standards, procedures, tools, and methodologies to produce cost estimates for technical projects based on work scope, specifications, and proposal or contract requirements. Establishes processes to perform analysis of project requirements, plans, and specifications to identify labor, material, equipment, and service requirements. Being an Estimating Manager incorporates benchmark data, trends, and historical pricing to generate detailed cost estimates that consist of itemized lists of expenses, labor hours, material quantities, and potential cost variations. Implements a workflow and system for scheduling and processing estimate requests and communicating with stakeholders. Additionally, Estimating Manager depending on the complexity and type of project, may use different estimating methods, mathematical models, or specialized estimating software tools to generate estimates. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Estimating Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be an Estimating Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     DESCRIPTION
    As the Director of Concept Engineering and Estimating, you will be a pivotal customer facing leader in our organization, responsible for leading a team of concept engineers and estimators, partnering with sales, engaging with customers and driving the development of custom automation solutions. Your focus will be on catering to clients' unique needs in the medical device and life sciences industries. This role requires a strategic visionary who can blend technical expertise with innovative thinking, leadership, and the ability to deliver cutting-edge solutions and a customer experience that elevate our presence in these specialized sectors.
     
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES                                           
     
    • Provide leadership to the concept engineering and estimating team, set goals and strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
    • Requires advanced proficiency in understanding customer needs, along with the ability to facilitate customer conversations to understand needs and opportunities they may not be able to articulate themselves, the ability to coach/teach/oversee a technical team to develop automation concepts and proposals, and the ability to win new business that meets or beats profitability goals while continuing to develop an industry leading customer experience.
    • Oversee the estimation process for automation projects, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards.
    • Track and analyze sales vs. quotes, providing regular reports and insights for strategic decision-making.
    • Utilize advanced knowledge of automation hardware, controls, and technology to design innovative solutions.
    • Implement strategies to mitigate risks and ensure successful project execution.
    • Identify opportunities for cost optimization without compromising solution integrity.
    • Negotiate favorable terms and build strong relationships to enhance project outcomes.
    • Conduct detailed reviews of contracts, ensuring alignment with project specifications, terms, and conditions.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Project Managers, Operations, and Business Development, to ensure alignment between estimation processes and project execution.
    • Collaborate with Project Managers to manage change orders and effectively close out projects, ensuring customer satisfaction and project success.
    • Identify and implement process improvements within the estimating department to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
    • Serve as a senior leader on the Automation Solutions Leadership Team.

    Other Skills and Abilities:
     
    • Extensive experience in estimating, applications engineering, or relevant field.
    • Ability to analyze information quickly and accurately
    • Industrial automation and controls engineering experience, ideally serving a life science market.
    • Ability to build teams and process to support rapid scale and future acquisitions.
    • Ability to explain how and why specific conclusions were reached
    • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
    • Ability to manage multiple projects from conception to completion
    • Proven organizational skills and the ability to multitask
    • Strong technical writing skills
    • Proficient in Solidworks and Microsoft Office
    • Experience with GD&T and an understanding of manufacturing tolerances
    • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings
    • Willing to travel to Invio facilities and customer sites as required (30% or less)
    EDUCATION
     
    Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business, or related field or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least 10 years of experience.
