Executive Steward jobs in Battle Creek, MI

Under the guidance of the Parks Manager, this seasonal position assists in the daily operations and maintenance of Calhoun County Parks from May 1, 2024 (or sooner) to Oct. 31, 2024. The position is full-time but can provide flexibility in hours if needed.

1. Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, trimmers, chainsaws (18 ), and hand tools.
2. Plant and care for trees, shrubs, and flowers.
3. Repair equipment such as picnic tables, benches, boardwalks, signs, bathroom fixtures, and other park amenities.
4. Clearing trails and boardwalks of fallen trees and debris and address erosion issues. 
5. Pick up litter and remove bagged trash as needed.
6. Respond to parkgoer questions and concerns professionally and effectively.
7. Report any facility problems, vandalism, or illegal activities to immediate supervisor.
8. Other job duties as assigned.

• One to three years of experience working with landscaping, lawn care, maintenance, or similar position.  
• Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude, strong work ethic, and to handle matters with others in a courteous, respectful, responsive, and effective manner.
• Possess a valid Michigan vehicle operator’s license and an acceptable driving record.
• Physical ability to frequently transport items weighing up to 75 lbs. 
• Ability to safely operate and maintain power tools, chainsaws, mowers, and other equipment. 

• Frequent work outside with exposure to hot and cold weather conditions.
• Frequently required to stoop, bend, climb, kneel, and lift.
• Potential exposure to loud noise, fumes, odors, dust, dirt, molds, mildew, and wet and dry conditions.
• Extended workdays (beyond eight hours/day), overtime, irregular work hours, weekend, or holiday work, are occasionally required.
