Exercise Physiologist jobs in Bakersfield, CA

Exercise Physiologist develops, implements, and evaluates exercise programs for patients. Conducts testing that assesses cardiovascular and metabolic effects of exercise for cardiac and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Being an Exercise Physiologist follows testing protocols and selects appropriate testing protocol for the patient. Monitors patient during testing. Additionally, Exercise Physiologist calculates and records testing results. Coordinates with cross-functional patient care teams. May design exercise prescriptions, instructional materials, home exercise guidelines, and discharge instructions. Conducts exercise training sessions for patients. Requires a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology. Typically reports to a manager. The Exercise Physiologist work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.     Job Summary:

    Develops exercise prescription for patients using standard, cardiopulmonary, nuclear, pharmacological and echo testing results. Develops and implements individualized and group teaching protocols for exercise taking into consideration patient problems, age and specific discharge needs.

    Job Requirements:

    Education and Work Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in exercise science or equivalent (some certifications will require Bachelor’s): Required
    • Master's Degree: Preferred

    Licenses/Certifications:

    • American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Exercise Specialist certification: Preferred
    • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS OR HS-ACLS OR RQIACLS) certification: Preferred

    Essential Functions:

    • Assists and supports management of the Cardiopulmonary Rehab programs. Assesses patient and develops plan of care with other team members, using exercise testing and clinical information. Performs exercises with patients, demonstrating correct body position and proper use of equipment to prevent injury and follow exercise prescription.
    • Supervises group exercise for the low risk patient and develop individualized prescriptions and variable mix workload. Documents assessment data into patient records. Provides orthopedic consultation to patients.
    • Assists with education of patients and their families, including provision of programs for patients in area of expertise. Assists with Cardiopulmonary Continuous Performance Improvement Plan. Ensures exercise equipment is maintained in safe working condition.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
