Exercise Physiologist develops, implements, and evaluates exercise programs for patients. Conducts testing that assesses cardiovascular and metabolic effects of exercise for cardiac and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Being an Exercise Physiologist follows testing protocols and selects appropriate testing protocol for the patient. Monitors patient during testing. Additionally, Exercise Physiologist calculates and records testing results. Coordinates with cross-functional patient care teams. May design exercise prescriptions, instructional materials, home exercise guidelines, and discharge instructions. Conducts exercise training sessions for patients. Requires a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology. Typically reports to a manager. The Exercise Physiologist work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.     Summary :

    Instruct and monitor individuals with chronic disease in group exercise. Assists and provides exercise prescriptions. Instructs classes/individuals/community on risk factor modification and wellness. Assists in data collection and documentation.

    Responsibilities :

    • Assists in development and implements safe and effective exercise programming for primary and secondary prevention.
    • Develops and teaches patients and their partners the components of a risk reducing exercise practice including self-monitoring, rate of perceived exertion, aerobic and resistance training.
    • Collaborates with other disciplines to create and teach risk reduction and optimize activity tolerance to subsets of the population such as: the overweight, the diabetic, those with heart failure, coronary artery disease and those with vascular disease.
    • Teaches orientation to exercise
    • Monitors the exercise session process to facilitate best practice consistency and role function clarity between exercise staff.
    • Introduces most effective evidence-based techniques to staff for use with different patient populations such as the elderly, those with heart failure, and the obese
    • Develops the exercise training and physiology understanding of the staff and multi-disciplinary team members.
    • Monitors the quality of the exercise programming.
    • Acts with compassion to patients post cardiac event.
    • Regularly assesses emotional healing process post cardiac event.
    • Offers and teaches education on stress/emotional management.
    • Refers patients to appropriate counseling.

    Skills

    · BLS

    · ACLS or ACLS within the first 6 months of employment

    Education

    · Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science/similar degree programs(required)

    Credentials

    · Certification is not required upon entry, but we will work with staff toward ACSM certification for CEP (Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist)
