Exercise Physiologist develops, implements, and evaluates exercise programs for patients. Conducts testing that assesses cardiovascular and metabolic effects of exercise for cardiac and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Being an Exercise Physiologist follows testing protocols and selects appropriate testing protocol for the patient. Monitors patient during testing. Additionally, Exercise Physiologist calculates and records testing results. Coordinates with cross-functional patient care teams. May design exercise prescriptions, instructional materials, home exercise guidelines, and discharge instructions. Conducts exercise training sessions for patients. Requires a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology. Typically reports to a manager. The Exercise Physiologist work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.     POSITION: Assistant Professor. This is a nine-month tenure-track position in the School of Kinesiology beginning no sooner than January 2025 and no later than August 2025. Rank will be determined based on the requirements for Assistant Professor as described in the School of Kinesiology, College of Education, and Auburn University tenure and promotion guidelines. We are seeking an exercise physiologist who has research expertise in the field of exercise physiology (including; biochemistry of exercise, bioenergetics, cardiovascular disease, health disparities, infrared imaging, mitochondrial metabolism, protein metabolism, skeletal and cardiac muscle physiology, nutrition, sports nutrition, pediatric physiology, thermoregulation, neural/autonomic physiology, and vascular biology and physiology).     The School of Kinesiology is housed in the College of Education. The School offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Kinesiology.     The School of Kinesiology is located in a "state of the art" building as sole occupant. Current physiology equipment and research capabilities available in our building include: 12' by 12' environmental chamber (range of -40 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, and 10 to 80 percent relative humidity), infrared imaging systems, DEXA, Artinis near infrared Oxymon, Instrumentation Laboratory GEM Premier 4000 blood gas/pH/ion analyzer, CO-Oximeter, Hitachi cardiovascular ultrasound machine, oxygen electrode systems for mitochondrial function measures, osmometer, flame photometer, western blotting and immunohistochemistry equipment, bright field and fluorescent microscopes, real-time PCR thermal cycler, spectrophotometer, fluorometer, luminometer, flow cytometer, Bergstrom muscle biopsy, Parvo Medics metabolic carts, SphygmaCor, Finapres, Hokanson Rapid Cuff Inflation System, 16-channel AD Instruments system, Woodway treadmills, Velotron cycle ergometers, Olympic lifting platform, isokinetic dynamometers, space for exercise interventions/training, cell culture hoods and incubators.
    Auburn University is a partner of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS). The School of Kinesiology actively participates in several of the training programs, professional development resources, and funding mechanisms provided by the CCTS. Auburn also has an MRI Research Center with the capability to scan with a Siemens 7 Tesla for research needs, and a Siemens Skyra open bore 3T scanner for clinical and research use.

    O Develop or augment national and international recognition and further enhance a nationally recognized research program as evidenced by a strong record of impactful publications and citations, presentations in national and international venues, and external funding.
    O Engage in rigorous research resulting in scholarly publications, preferably peer-reviewed journal articles in prestigious outlets
    O Teach undergraduate, master's and doctoral level courses in exercise physiology at an excellent level in support of the School of Kinesiology program
    O Recruiting, advising, mentoring, and training graduate students
    O Direct student research including projects, theses, and dissertations
    O Participate in the planning and implementation of curricular changes for the program and School
