Exercise Physiologist develops, implements, and evaluates exercise programs for patients. Conducts testing that assesses cardiovascular and metabolic effects of exercise for cardiac and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Being an Exercise Physiologist follows testing protocols and selects appropriate testing protocol for the patient. Monitors patient during testing. Additionally, Exercise Physiologist calculates and records testing results. Coordinates with cross-functional patient care teams. May design exercise prescriptions, instructional materials, home exercise guidelines, and discharge instructions. Conducts exercise training sessions for patients. Requires a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology. Typically reports to a manager. The Exercise Physiologist work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Basic Function:
Work will be conducted in health promotion and fitness development in an ambulatory care setting. Implementation of exercise prescription for health related fitness would be a strong emphasis of the position. Duties to include client screening and fitness assessment following ACSM Guidelines.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Science Program, Master's Degree preferred. Must be CPR certified, First Aid Certification desirable. Ability to perform EKG testing and interpretation. Skill in stress testing desirable. Must be knowledgeable in the basic aspects of the acute and chronic effects of exercise on all major organ systems and the basic prescription of exercise.
