Additionally, Exercise Physiologist calculates and records testing results. Coordinates with cross-functional patient care teams. May design exercise prescriptions, instructional materials, home exercise guidelines, and discharge instructions. Conducts exercise training sessions for patients. Requires a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology. Typically reports to a manager. The Exercise Physiologist work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.     General Summary:

    The primary role for the Exercise Physiologist II is to provide coverage in the Testing Center department performing CPET, Stress Tests with treadmill or bike under the direction of the Supervising Cardiologist at that site. This person may educate patients on fitness performance and cardiovascular disease risk factors as part of the CV Performance Program.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    • Assess fitness levels and determines appropriate exercise modalities; consults with Cardiologist as required to perform appropriate tests.
    • Applies exercise science to perform stress test procedures as ordered by the Cardiologists and/or referring MDs.
    • In addition, performs VO2max testing that may include body composition analysis.
    • Ability to design, implement, and supervise individualized exercise prescriptions for people with chronic disease and disabling conditions.
    • Monitors patient heart rhythms and notifies Cardiologist of arrhythmias or symptoms during stress test.
    • Monitors blood sugars pre- and post-exercise test for patients with diabetes type 1 and type 2 per protocol.
    • Educates patients on cardiovascular disease risk factors.
    • Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations
    • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • In-depth knowledge of exercise testing, exercise equipment and quality control that adheres to infection prevention standards.
    • Mentors and trains new clinical staff within scope on Stress Tests, CPET, ECGs.
    • Participates in referral and enrollment process/department policy.
    • Other duties and projects as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    Education:

    • Clinical Exercise Physiologists with Master’s degree in exercise science or related field.
    • Certification as Clinical Exercise Physiologists with American College of Sports Medicine preferred

    License & Certifications:

    • BLS Certification (American Heart Association) required.
    • ACLS Certification (American Heart Association) required.

    Experience:

    • Three to five years hands-on clinical experience in Cardiology that includes cardiopulmonary exercise testing, stress testing.
    • Fitness performance planning that includes exercise prescription development and risk factor modification education preferred.
