Exercise Physiologist develops, implements, and evaluates exercise programs for patients. Conducts testing that assesses cardiovascular and metabolic effects of exercise for cardiac and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Being an Exercise Physiologist follows testing protocols and selects appropriate testing protocol for the patient. Monitors patient during testing. Additionally, Exercise Physiologist calculates and records testing results. Coordinates with cross-functional patient care teams. May design exercise prescriptions, instructional materials, home exercise guidelines, and discharge instructions. Conducts exercise training sessions for patients. Requires a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology. Typically reports to a manager. The Exercise Physiologist work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. The Exercise Physiologist assumes responsibility and accountability for the delivery of patient care in Cardiac Rehabilitation by assisting patients in achieving their optimal functional capacity through exercise (both monitored and non-monitored), education, and risk factor modification. The Exercise Physiologist consistently demonstrates professional skills and abilities, utilizes his/her knowledge base and proficient skills to act as a resource person for patients and staff. As part of a comprehensive team, the Exercise Physiologist uses their expertise to ensure safe and effective individually-tailored exercise plans and prescriptions that follow current guidelines, meet patients’ needs and adhere to physician recommendations. The Exercise Physiologist will participate in the overall case management of Cardiac Rehab patients (to include but not limited to initial evaluations, tele-monitoring, preparing individualized treatment plans and discharge summary reports). He/she will also conduct educational classes and in-services as needed. Lastly, this position will participate in other activities as directed by the Manager.
