Exercise Physiologist develops, implements, and evaluates exercise programs for patients. Conducts testing that assesses cardiovascular and metabolic effects of exercise for cardiac and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Being an Exercise Physiologist follows testing protocols and selects appropriate testing protocol for the patient. Monitors patient during testing. Additionally, Exercise Physiologist calculates and records testing results. Coordinates with cross-functional patient care teams. May design exercise prescriptions, instructional materials, home exercise guidelines, and discharge instructions. Conducts exercise training sessions for patients. Requires a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology. Typically reports to a manager. The Exercise Physiologist work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. An Exercise Specialist assists members with cardiovascular, flexibility, strength and endurance training. An EP performs health history reviews and biometric screenings to identify and prioritize appropriate exercise prescription. An EP must evaluate pertinent medical records and thoroughly interview members to clarify medical history needs, goals, and problems. An EP must follow orders from the referring physician in providing education and instruction to promote/maintain health and well-being. An EP must practice in the acceptable scope of ACSM guidelines, and hospital policies and procedures. An EP also provides support for front desk operations, member services, EVS and Maintenance as needed, and is required to support all Inspira Health Fitness Connection locations as needed.
