Exercise Specialist identifies risk factors and designs specialized strength and conditioning programs for patients. Teaches patients proper exercise techniques. Being an Exercise Specialist educates patient and family members on proper techniques for transitioning from a hospital-based fitness program to a safe and effective home exercise program. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in exercise science. Additionally, Exercise Specialist typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Lancaster Family YMCA is seeking an Aquatic Group Exercise Instructor at our Lampeter-Strasburg Branch for approximately 2-4 hours per week. Candidates should be an experienced Water Aerobics Instructor, or a Group Exercise Instructor excited to learn a new skill!

Each class shall last approximately one (1) hour and must include: (i) a dynamic warm-up lasting approximately five (5) to ten (10) minutes; (ii) traditional water resistant activities; and (iii) a cool down and static stretching lasting approximately five (5) to ten (10) minutes. Water weights and aquatic noodles shall be used and made available to participants during the class to provide additional resistance and to assist participants in building and maintaining muscle.
Responsibilities:
1. Give proper and safe instruction of aquatic fitness programs.
2. Get to know class participants, as well as, any medical problems.
3. Stay up to date on any new information or learning opportunities concerning aquatic fitness
2. Keep a friendly warm atmosphere and report any problems or complaints to the Aquatic Director
6. Put away all equipment and extra lane lines used during classes.
3. Keep all records up to date and make sure all participants are signed up at the front desk.
Qualifications:
1. Certifications in CPR/AED. Lifeguard Certification preferred, or commitment to become certified within 6 months (paid for by the Y).
2. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and kinetics.
