Exhibit Designer - Museum designs and constructs museum collections, exhibits, and special projects. Researches ideas and materials for an exhibit, recommends solutions for design problems, and utilizes design techniques to produce desired visual effect and educational message. Being an Exhibit Designer - Museum may require a master's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. - Responsible for the design of small and large temporary exhibitions and permanent-interior projects exhibition furniture, display cases, and media environments.
- Create detailed 2D and 3D models using software such as Sketchup, AutoCAD, CAD, 3ds Max, and MicroStation
- Design and draft plans, sections, and elevations for structural components
- Perform calculations and analysis to ensure structural integrity and compliance
- Generate construction documents including drawings, specifications, and material lists
- Review and modify designs based on feedback from clients, sales and building team
- Coordinate with other design disciplines to ensure integration of structural elements
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in structural design software
- Bachelor’s degree in art or a design-related field and three or more years progressively responsible experience in exhibition design, architecture, set design, industrial design, or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a Structural Designer or similar role
- Proficiency in 2D animation software such as Sketchup, ArchiCAD, CAD, and MicroStation
- Familiarity with 3D modeling software such as 3ds Max
- Strong knowledge of trade show building regulations
- Ability to perform calculations for structural estimates
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
