Position Description: The Facilities and Exhibits Technician is responsible for the successful, innovative, and high-quality exhibit and building experience that reflects our values and ensures the ongoing maintenance to meet and exceed the needs and expectations of our visitors. The Facilities and Exhibits Technician works with senior management to identify strategic goals and develop a long-term exhibit plan. The Facilities and Exhibits Technician is responsible for the management of new exhibit projects, care and maintenance of existing exhibits. Scope of responsibility includes supervision of external professional services contractors as needed.
The Facilities and Exhibits Technician ensures that all exhibit components and environments are safe, in good working order, well cared for and repaired in a safe, timely, and aesthetically functional way. The Facilities and Exhibits Technician responds to daily cleaning and maintenance needs of exhibits and the museum grounds. This is a physically active role that requires a combination of technical expertise in woodworking, painting, electro-mechanical systems, metalwork, artistry, and general fabrication. Good communication, problem solving, multitasking, judgment, patience, flexibility, and a sense of humor are essential in this role.
The Facilities and Exhibits Technician supports building operations, assist with scheduling maintenance of technical contractors, and works closely with all administrative departments to address satisfaction issues and personify a cohesive organizational voice. The key objectives for this position are to provide a well-designed, quality exhibit experience, ensuring that exhibits are consistently functional, engaging, safe, and welcoming at all times for guests of all abilities.
Due to our size, this position only requires an average of 5 hours per week but may increase due to museum need, such as for exhibit creation and in preparation for special events and the summer season. The Facilities and Exhibit Technician’s schedule is flexible, within reason, to accommodate other places of employment.
