Responsibilities:
· Clean, organizes, prepares dental operatory area for patient treatment, using prescribed infection control procedures. Keeps patient delivery and waiting areas picked up and neat. Cleans, disinfects, and completes closing procedures for dental operatories at end of the clinic day.
· Organizes patient delivery pre-set trays with appropriate instruments, sets our prescribed materials and armamentarium for scheduled procedures. Manipulates dental materials following prescribed directions.
· Sorts, prepares, and disinfects instruments following the directives of the Faculty General Practice Clinic and the Patient Admissions Clinic.
· Orders, organizes and stocks supplies in cabinets in designated areas according to criteria established for the Faculty General Practice Clinic and the Patient Admissions Clinic
· Greets, seats, places napkin and headrest, prepares patient for treatment; dismisses patient. Updates pertinent patient information. Takes and records blood pressure readings. Records in the electronic patient record the examination findings verbalized by operator.
· Exposes, processes, and mounts radiographs of patients.
· Loads cartridge and needle for practitioner’s administration of local anesthetic. Picks up, passes, and receives appropriate instruments for procedure being done. Correctly utilizes intra-oral suction and air/water.
· Anticipates, recognizes, and provides emotional support and reassurance to patients. Communicates verbally and nonverbally with staff, faculty, students, and patients in a positive and constructive way.
· Exhibits an understanding of the philosophy of the program consistent with appropriate performance.
· Takes alginate impressions, pours and trims study casts, fabricates custom impression and bleaching trays, makes temporary molds.
· Assist in other areas utilizing a full range of dental assisting skills and lab duties.
· Demonstrates professional behavior in interacting with others, recognizes and demonstrates appropriate ethical standards, maintains confidentiality; adheres to recommended standards of dress, personal appearance, and hygiene.
· Enters completed charges, appointment requests, and otherwise interacts within the electronic patient health record (axiUm)
· Other duties as assigned.

Salary: $44,560.96
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:45am – 4:45pm – May require occasional overtime.
An advanced starting salary may be possible based on exceptional qualifications.
MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
1. Successful completion of a CODA accredited dental assistance program or one year full time equivalency in chairside assistant experience assisting in four-handed method of dentistry.
2. Must have a current certificate of registration to practice as a dental assistant issued by the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners. (QDA)
3. Must possess current Iowa certificate of proficiency in dental radiography. (QDA)
4. No additional work experience beyond the requirements for this position.
5. May require Expanded Functions (EF-1 and/or EF-2) based on specific needs assigned by provider.
Desirable Qualifications:
· Experience working with a general dentist.
· Ability to communicate effectively with others.
· Experience working with electronic health record.
