Exploration Director directs and develops an organization's oil and gas exploration projects. Analyzes and evaluates the opportunities, risk and profits for oil and gas deposits exploration. Being an Exploration Director initiates exploration plans based on compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Directs geological and geophysical programs and may have oversight for land acquisition and leasing activities. Additionally, Exploration Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Exploration Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be an Exploration Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     The location of this role is the Hermosa Project site near Patagonia, Arizona


    The Role

    This role provides leadership in the creation of long-term value for the Hermosa business through safely managing and guiding exploration activities across the Hermosa project broader land package and assisting in advancing ore-body knowledge at the sulphide Taylor Zn-Pb-Ag, Peake Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag and oxide Clark Mn-Zn-Ag mineral deposits.


    Accountabilities (Include but are not limited to):

    Individual Accountabilities:

    • Demonstrates visible field safety leadership, empowering individuals, and teams to take ownership of safety in their respective work areas to guarantee everyone goes home safe and well
    • Determines and directs exploration strategy and portfolio at the Hermosa project
    • Develops exploration work programs leading to discovery, balances exploration portfolio
    • Evaluates commercial and open land opportunities to enhance the Hermosa project exploration portfolio
    • Strong and effective communication and engagement skills to work at all levels of the organization
    • Relationship building skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams, balancing priorities to achieve key project goals
    • Identifies, builds, and develops talent and capability in the department including a pipeline of talent for key positions

    Qualifications, Skills, and Expertise:

    • B.Sc. or higher in Geology (or an earth sciences equivalent)
    • Minimum 15 years of geology related work experience including exposure to and proficiency in geological activities relating to mineral exploration
    • Experience in leading multidisciplinary geological programs and teams
    • Experience in project development stages from Greenfields and Brownfields exploration through to project study phases
    • Experience with industry standard geological software packages (i.e., Leapfrog, ArcGIS)
    • Experience in the development and implementation of data management processes and systems
    • Experience in Porphyry copper, Skarn and CRD style zinc-lead-manganese silver mineralization sufficient to be designated an exploration ‘Competent Person’ as defined in the JORC 2012 guideline
    • Strong language written and oral communication skills
