Facilities Director manages the maintenance, construction, repair, and refurbishment operations of one or more facilities or properties. Implements policies and procedures that ensure the optimal functioning of buildings, grounds, and associated equipment. Being a Facilities Director monitors daily building operations of all systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management to ensure reliability. Tracks work orders for quality, adherence to service standards, and budgeted guidelines. Additionally, Facilities Director directs training of managers, supervisors, and employees in best practices for maintenance work, service and safety standards, and local laws and regulations. Oversees vendors or contractors engaged for construction projects. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Facilities Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Under the direction of the Deputy County Administrator, directs and oversees the care and maintenance of all County-owned and leased buildings and grounds. Plans facilities alteration and maintenance projects; serves as an owner's representative for the construction of new and alteration of existing County facilities; and works closely with architects, construction managers, and general contractors. Develops preliminary project budgets and monitors operating and capital budget activity throughout the year.
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, construction management, or closely related field is preferred and at least six (6) years progressively responsible experience in maintenance construction management, including at least three (3) years in direct supervision.
The incumbent must be willing to carry a county-issued cell phone in order to respond to emergency situations during both normal working and off-duty hours.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Michigan driver's license.
