Primary Purpose:
Maintain physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use may be made at all times. Provide students with a physical learning environment that is safe, clean, attractive, and functional. Direct and manage district’s maintenance program.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree (preferred)
Valid and clear Texas Driver’s License
Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Nonrefundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of basic principles of construction, school plant maintenance, and custodial operations.
Ability to manage budget and personnel.
Ability to coordinate district function.
Ability to implement policy and procedures.
Ability to interpret data.
Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
Ability to conduct on-site inspections of district facilities
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to direct and manage operations of a large fleet of vehicles.
Knowledge of energy management and maintenance.
Proficiency with relevant computer software including Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
Experience:
Three years supervisory experience in maintenance operations
Three years’ experience in maintaining a large plant or building
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Building/Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
Direct and manage custodial, maintenance and repair operations of district.
Manage and process work orders for repair and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
Develop and maintain written departmental procedures for maintenance, repair, operations, and preventative maintenance of all district buildings and equipment.
Prepare plans and specifications for contracted repair work and site improvement for submission to purchasing department for bids.
Policy, Reports, and Law
Implement federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required in Facility Department
Prepare data necessary to process payroll
Develop training options and improvement plans to ensure exemplary operation of Facility Department
Comply with applicable personnel policies
Budget and Inventory
Administer facility budget and ensure that programs are cost-effective and funds are managed prudently
Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs
Plan and direct inventory and stock control program for equipment and supplies
Initiate purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies
Replace and maintain a current inventory of supplies and parts to avoid delay when reordering
Approve and forward invoices and purchase orders for Facilities Department to Purchasing Department
Recommend disposal of obsolete equipment and purchase replacement equipment when necessary
Personnel Management
Assign work to facility personnel and oversee completion
Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions in Facility Department
Recruit, train, and supervise facility personnel and make sound recommendations about personnel placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal
Evaluate employee job performance to ensure effectiveness
Safety
Maintain safety standards in conformance with federal, state, and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventive safety
Ensure that equipment is maintained in operating and optimum condition
Other
Perform disaster duty when needed at District shelters
Attend professional growth activities to keep abreast of innovative techniques in maintenance operations
Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed
Development of evaluations via technology (SchoolDude)
Other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and evaluate performance of skilled craftsmen, head custodians, custodian and grounds coordinator, custodial supervisors, and support staff assigned to facilities department
Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.
Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; occasional district wide travel; work indoors and outdoors to conduct on-site inspections of all maintenance facilities and construction projects.
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
