Job Purpose
Zion’s church building is an integral part of the life of Zion Lutheran Church. It is a sacred place for worship, a community gathering place, and a beautiful, historic and architecturally unique building. As “The Common Room,” the space is a valuable resource to various organizations in our area, and it is highly trafficked - multiple groups use the building each week.
The Facilities Manager position is broad in scope and varied in responsibilities, with a high degree of flexibility and a high need for availability. A clean, functioning, and prepared building is the first sign of welcome to church members and the wider community alike. The Facilities Manager extends this welcome through completion of their duties and responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintenance and Cleaning
- Cleaning the used areas of the church regularly, including the sanctuary/Common Room, office areas, parlor, kitchenette, restrooms, and hallways.
- Periodic deep cleaning and pre-event special cleanings may be required.
- Periodic maintenance of wood and tile floors with wax or polyurethane treatments.
- Basic maintenance of building equipment such as light bulb replacement, smoke alarm battery replacement, equipment repairs that do not require licensed trades.
- Maintenance of the church grounds, including lawn mowing, snow removal and trash/recycling/compost pickup.
- Keep common storage areas tidy and organized. Maintain organized custodial closets and tool rooms.
- Special maintenance/building improvement projects as assigned.
- Setups
- Setup tables, chairs, and other items for all Worship services and Common Room events.
- Maintain and change signage in the Sanctuary and outdoors.
- Leadership, Planning, Training and Teamwork
- Coordinate with the Employer weekly in the area of general planning and leadership of facility maintenance, cleaning, and setups. Proactively schedule and complete larger cleaning and maintenance projects.
- Attend periodic trainings and meetings at the employer’s request.
- Be responsible for the purchase of all cleaning and basic maintenance supplies.
- Coordination of various building inspections required by State and Local organizations, including inspections for boiler, fire/safety alarms, fire extinguishers, kitchen hood, and insurance.
- Recommendations and coordination with contractors of preventive maintenance or repair of major equipment/systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical. Major repairs or other large expenses should be approved by the Pastor, Council or Property Committee.
- Be welcoming, compassionate, approachable, patient, and flexible when working with Zion members, Common Room renters, or community members.
Details
- $18/hour or based on experience, 15 hours/week, payable bi-weekly.
- Reports to: Pastor.
- The Employee and Employer will communicate and coordinate regularly to determine the work schedule that meets the needs of Zion Lutheran Church and the Employee. While the Employer will endeavor to provide a high degree of schedule flexibility, the Employee should expect to work many Saturdays and some evenings.
- Hours worked should correspond to the work required each week but should aim for 15 hours per week on average unless approved ahead of time by the Employer.
- Employee needs the ability to lift fifty (50) pounds.
- Either party may terminate this contract by giving the other party thirty (30) days’ written advance notice.
