FACILITIES SUPERVISOR supervises and coordinates the day-to-day maintenance and support of buildings, grounds, and facilities systems. Oversees staff installing, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management. Being a FACILITIES SUPERVISOR tracks work orders and ensures work follows established service and quality standards for completion. Schedules and supervises preventative maintenance, painting, or carpentry projects. Additionally, FACILITIES SUPERVISOR maintains a safe and effective working environment that complies with regulations and laws. May coordinate work to be completed by contractors and skilled trades. Typically requires an associate degree. Typically reports to a manager. The FACILITIES SUPERVISOR supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a FACILITIES SUPERVISOR typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     Statement of Job:

    The University of Southern Maine is seeking a Grounds Supervisor (Facilities Maintenance Supervisor) to join our team. This position is an excellent opportunity to become part of the USM team and provide quality customer service in a dynamic environment.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of activities and responsibilities of the Portland campus grounds team. The successful candidate will assign work locations, areas, and establish daily priorities. This position will report directly to our Facilities Maintenance Manager and work together to meet the needs of both our Portland and Gorham campuses.

The office for this position is located on the Portland campus and the position serves both the Portland and Gorham campuses of USM.

    The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. This is a full-time position with a starting hourly rate of pay of $21.29/hour. This position is considered essential and critical to keeping our campuses safe, the successful candidate will be expected to report to campus even when the University may be closed.


    Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Direct responsibility for reactive and preventative grounds maintenance for the USM Portland campus
    • Supervision of individuals primarily assigned to the Portland campus
    • Knowledge and ability to perform physical work associated with grounds maintenance
    • Working supervision including completing assigned duties of grounds activities on the Portland campus (mowing, landscaping, projects, maintenance, snow removal, etc.)

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and sufficient experience, including seven years of grounds-related work experience which should include two years of lead or supervisory experience.
    • Basic customer service skills
    • Computers and related software application knowledge
    • Valid Maine Driver’s License with the ability to operate University vehicles per the University of Maine System Administrative Practice Letter
    • Must be able to perform physical tasks associated with the position
