Field Engineer - Construction delivers on-site technical oversight support to provide engineering guidance and monitoring for construction projects. Monitors construction progress and conducts daily site inspections to ensure work complies with time, budget, quality, safety, and regulatory requirements. Being a Field Engineer - Construction follows quality control procedures and inspection protocols to ensure that standards, designs, blueprints, and specifications are understood and followed. Troubleshoots technical issues that arise on-site and consult with architects, contractors, and supervisors to develop and implement solutions with minimal disruption to project schedules. Additionally, Field Engineer - Construction documents construction activities using logs, progress, and inspection reports and regularly updates status to project managers. Attends project meetings to provide technical input and present recommendations to improve construction processes. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Field Engineer - Construction work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     Summary

    Supervises, leads and coordinates activities of workers engaged in construction, installation and repair of wooden structures and concrete.  Possesses an advanced knowledge of the position and provides a willingness to put forth extra effort. Coordinate and inspect work performed by sub-contractors. Order and schedule materials from vendors and suppliers.

    • Lead and/or coordinate activities of co-workers while on small and large projects.
    • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a clean and safe work environment.
    • Verify trueness of structure using plumb bob and level.
    • Fully Understand and follow Blueprints, Drawings, and Specifications.
    • Measure and mark lines on materials using a pencil, marker, chalk or marking gauge.
    • Shape or cut material to specific measurement with hand tools, machines and power saw.
    • Erects, moves and perform duties from scaffolding, ladders, and Lifts.
    • Understand and follow company chain of command and reporting methods.
    • Retain and apply what is learned as it applies to the next skill level.
    • Regularly attend company safety training sessions.
    • Keep and maintain reliable transportation to and from changing job site locations.
    • Ability to take direction and carry out job duties as needed.
    • Communicate professionally with Architects and engineers.
    • Align, straighten, plumb and square forms for installation.
    • Understand and follow directions with minimal supervision.
    • Able to communicate, schedule and inspect work performed by sub-contractors.
    • Complete company paperwork as needed.
    • Able to understand smart phones and tablets, including Time Keeping, Emails, documents, submittals, etc.
    • Able to use computer programs such as Word, Excel, Microsoft Office (emails and calendars), etc. with a basic understanding.
    • Able to review and forward Submittals, RFI’s, ASI’s, Change Orders to engineer or architect.
    • Selects materials and structural units, such as lumber, pre-fabricated doors and cabinets of wood or plastic and paneling. Inspects them to ensure conformance with building code and local ordinance.
    • Examines blueprints to determine dimensions of structure.
    • Layout floor plan and cabinet work, using rule, framing square and calipers.
    • Determines sequence of activities concerned with fabrication, assembly and erection of structure.
    • Assigns workers to such tasks as cutting material to size, building concrete forms, erecting wooden framework and laying flooring.
    • Inspects work performed by subcontractors, including ductwork, wiring and pipe installations to ensure conformance with specifications.
    • Installs doors, builds stairs and lays hardwood floors.
    • Supervise workers engaged in building timber structures such as cofferdams, trestles and supports for concrete forms.
    • Estimate costs for contracts.
    • Understand and follow company chain of command and reporting methods.
    • Retain and apply what is learned as it applies to the next skill level.
    • Regularly attend company safety training sessions.
    • Keep and maintain reliable transportation to and from changing job site locations.

    Supervisory Responsibility

    This position will oversee all crews assigned to their specific project. Crews will consist of laborers, apprentice, journeyman and foremen.

     

    Work Environment

    This job performs physically demanding work. May work at great heights or outdoors in all weather conditions. The use Personal Protection Equipment is required.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position (40 hrs./week). Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 7:00a.m. to 3:30p.m. with overtime as needed before/after shifts and on Saturdays.

     

    Travel

    Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

     

    Experience

    • Four years or more experience in a related area preferred.
    • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair houses, buildings, or other structures
    • Able to perform job duties with little to no supervision
    • Able to layout, form, pour and finish concrete flatwork
    • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
    • General understanding of construction practices
    • Willingness to put forth extra effort
    • Communication skills both verbal and written

     

    Education

    High school diploma or Equivalent.

     

    Additional Eligibility Qualifications

    Maintains a valid driver’s license and be insurable under company insurance provider/program
