Field Superintendent - Construction oversees the daily construction activities of contractors, foremen, and workers at a work site to ensure projects follow schedules. Coordinates the procurement, delivery, and placement of materials and equipment on-site as required to execute each phase of a construction project. Being a Field Superintendent - Construction follows construction schedules and monitors daily and weekly progress to ensure project milestones are achieved. Troubleshoots any issues involving workers, contractors, safety, quality, changes, or processes and expedites solutions to keep the project on track. Additionally, Field Superintendent - Construction directs or conducts inspections to audit the quality of workmanship and materials and compliance with specifications and standards. Completes the required status, change, or timekeeping reports. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a project manager. The Field Superintendent - Construction supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Field Superintendent - Construction typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Superintendent Job Description
Superintendents coordinate and manage all day-to-day onsite construction activities, ensure safety requirements are always met, quality is maintained, and schedules are created, tracked, and adhered to. Superintendents work with project teams including Project Managers, Project Engineers, Assistant Superintendents, Foreman, Field Personnel, and other office departments. The Superintendent is the main point of contact on-site (unless a Senior Superintendent is present) and is responsible for the overall project.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
Superintendents complete organizational and project management responsibilities to effectively lead the construction team and ensure they have all the resources they need. They have the following duties:
Essential Characteristics
Arrange pre-installation coordination meetings for all work areas that involve overlapping work by multiple trade contractors. Discuss quality expectations with trade foremen prior to installation (pre-bid, post-bid, and preinstallation meetings).
When conflicts and disputes arise during the project, focus all parties on developing mutually acceptable solutions aligned with the contractual agreements.
Review conceptual, schematic, and design developments for constructability, phasing options, temporary protection requirements, site logistics, and other field construction issues. Establish project site expectations for safety, quality, unforeseen conditions, housekeeping, and general conduct. Plan and coordinate site logistics, including traffic patterns, equipment locations and storage and staging.
Partner with Project Manager, Client, and trade contractors to develop a work plan for projects. Coordinate project team’s preparation for upcoming work through progress meetings. Plan and coordinate timely initiation, momentum, and completion of all trade contract work on the project site according to the project schedule.
Create a project-specific safety program highlighting key or unique hazards introduced by site conditions or work methods and scheduled adjacencies. Develop and communicate a leadership approach for addressing hazards on the project. Define safety expectations by providing a safety orientation for every individual who enters the site. Address early offenses to clarify expectations and reinforce the commitment to safety, recognize and correct common work area hazards. Promptly report and investigate accidents and safety-related incidents, disciplining repeat, or extreme violations, up to and including, permanently removing individuals from the project site. Attend company-wide Safety meetings.
Arrange and coordinate timely permitting and required inspections to start and complete work. Prioritize and review critical submittals for dimensional control and constructability. Maintain a rolling punch list defining final quality expectations and ensuring completion.
Oversee technical interpretation of construction documents and drawings, and recommend construction methods, and equipment as required. Assure consistency with contractual specifications and requirements for the project.
Continuously assess and analyze the project’s actual status against goals, develop contingency plans, and revise construction strategy as required.
Superintendents represent Henley at the project site every day work is being performed, by setting expectations, and responsibilities, and maintaining commitments. Technology plays an increasingly important role in the construction industry; therefore, Superintendents need to be capable of learning new software and integrating it into their workflow.
Due to the far-reaching nature of the job of Superintendent, you need to be able to strategically delegate tasks, assess subordinates, and determine which team members are best suited to handle specific duties.
