Finance Director directs an organization's financial policies, planning, reporting and controls. Oversees all financial functions including accounting, budget, credit, risk, tax, and treasury. Being a Finance Director generally is the second most senior finance executive. Requires a master's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent. Additionally, Finance Director may require the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential. Typically reports to chief financial officer (CFO). The Finance Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Responsibilities:
- Oversee all financial operations and activities of the organization
- Develop and implement financial strategies, policies, and procedures
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations
- Provide leadership and guidance to the finance team
- Manage financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes
- Monitor and analyze financial performance, including cost control and profitability
- Conduct risk management assessments and develop mitigation strategies
- Prepare financial reports, statements, and presentations for management and stakeholders
- Perform cash flow analysis and manage cash flow to optimize liquidity
- Collaborate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial service providers
- Stay updated on industry trends, changes in accounting standards, and best practices in financial management
Skills:
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, including IAS (International Accounting Standards)
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team
- Experience in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting
- Expertise in cost control measures to optimize operational efficiency
- Proficient in risk management practices to identify and mitigate potential risks
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data
- Knowledge of governmental accounting principles (if applicable)
- Ability to perform cash flow analysis and develop strategies for cash flow optimization
- Familiarity with financial services industry regulations and compliance requirements
