Finance Director directs an organization's financial policies, planning, reporting and controls. Oversees all financial functions including accounting, budget, credit, risk, tax, and treasury. Being a Finance Director generally is the second most senior finance executive. Requires a master's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent. Additionally, Finance Director may require the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential. Typically reports to chief financial officer (CFO). The Finance Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Finance Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     AGENCY BACKGROUND:

    MercyFirst is a not-for-profit human and social service agency that has been serving children and families in need since we were founded by the Sisters of Mercy/Hermanas de las Misericordia in 1894. Today our agency continues to address the emotional and physical needs of children and families in Brooklyn, Queens and across Long Island through innovative treatments and life-changing interventions. We provide community-based prevention and family foster care services, group homes in the community for struggling children and families within the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, and short-term residential services for unaccompanied migrant children. Each year, MercyFirst serves more than 3,000 children, teenagers and families overcome enormous obstacles, re-imagine their futures and develop their full potential.


    POSITION SUMMARY:
    The Director of Finance and Operations is a member of the agency’s senior management team and serves as a strategic partner in planning and implementing the future vision for the agency. The Director of Finance and Operations must be both a hands-on worker and an excellent leader, working closely with the BTQ staff and the in-house team.


    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Director of Finance and Operations is responsible for collaborating with BTQ Financial, overseeing internal finance staff and supporting the finance-related needs of MercyFirst’s program leadership team, and managing procurement and various operations functions at the agency. MercyFirst has contracted with BTQ Financial Services (www.btqfinancial.com) to manage all accounting and claiming operations and to serve as the organization’s fiscal “back office.” As MercyFirst’s primary Liaison with BTQ, the Director of Finance and Operations is responsible for all the financial activities of MercyFirst, including but not limited to the agency’s financial reports, budget, contract reimbursement claims, billings and audits. In addition, the Director of Finance and Operations will oversee the procurement/purchasing and operations needs of MercyFirst. This includes working closely with program leadership on purchasing, the contracting process (review, execution and tracking), portal management, business operations vendor relationships, and special projects, as needed.

    Salary Range:
    $70,000 - $100,00 per year
