Finance Director directs an organization's financial policies, planning, reporting and controls. Oversees all financial functions including accounting, budget, credit, risk, tax, and treasury. Being a Finance Director generally is the second most senior finance executive. Requires a master's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent. Additionally, Finance Director may require the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential. Typically reports to chief financial officer (CFO). The Finance Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Finance Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Finance Director will be an expert in financial management, passionate about our mission and confident in advising the management team in fiscal matters. This position reports to the Executive Director of the agency. The successful candidate will be a hands-on, compassionate manager able to lead and develop an internal team to support nonprofit financial accounting and reporting , long term financial health, grant management, and compliance with applicable laws and rules. .

    REPORTS TO: Executive Director

    RESPONSIBLE FOR: Payroll Specialist, accounting and billing team members.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Minimum of a BA, with a related degree and 5-7 years of overall professional experience;
    • Masters degree in a related field and a combination of experience will also be considered
    • Demonstrated Non-Profit experience preferred
    • The ideal candidate has experience of final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting and audit coordination for either significant program areas
    • Ability to translate financial concepts to – and to effectively collaborate with -- programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds
    • Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; knowledge of accounting and reporting software; ADP and Quickbooks Online experience is highly preferred
    • A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills which support and enable sound decision making
    • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external entities
    • A multitasker with the ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment
    • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of the agency

    SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

    • Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; collate financial reporting materials for all donor segments, and oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting.
    • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors; assess any changes necessary.
    • Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the Board of Directors and Executive Management ; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and keep executive leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.
    • Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
    • Manage Accounts payable and Accounts Receivable
    • Oversee agency billing and payroll
    • Reconcile monthly, all balance accounts and sub modules
    • Effectively communicate and present the critical financial matters to Board and agency Executive teams
    • Other essential functions and duties as assigned
