Finance Director directs an organization's financial policies, planning, reporting and controls. Oversees all financial functions including accounting, budget, credit, risk, tax, and treasury. Being a Finance Director generally is the second most senior finance executive. Requires a master's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent. Additionally, Finance Director may require the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential. Typically reports to chief financial officer (CFO). The Finance Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Finance Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Purpose:

    Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the accounting and control functions of the organization. Participates and assists in corporate strategic planning efforts. For our organization, this position is the Chief Financial Officer.


    Duties and Responsibilities

    Listed below is an outline of the major duties and responsibilities that you will be required to perform. As the Director of Finance, you are delegated the authority, responsibility, and accountability to carry out your assigned duties. Your job description is broad by nature and every duty that the position requires may not appear in this list.

    · Accomplish accounting human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning monitoring, appraising and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.

    · Achieve accounting operational objectives by contributing accounting information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality and customer-services standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; implementing change.

    · Meet accounting financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.

    · Confirm financial status by monitoring revenue and expenses. Constant analysis of data required.

    · Maintain accounting controls by establishing a chart of accounts, defining accounting policies and procedures.

    · Guide other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy, applying observations and recommendations to operational issues.

    · Maintain financial security by establishing internal controls.

    · Avoid legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation, enforcing accounting regulations and recommending new procedures.

    · Protect organization’s value by keeping information confidential

    · Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publication; maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations.

    · Accomplish accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

    · Perform other duties as assigned.

    · Obey all federal, state, and local laws.



    Requirements

    Knowledge, Skills and Working Conditions:

    • Works in the well-lighted office area.
    • Physical exertion required at least 20% of the time. Physical exertion is described as standing, stooping, kneeling and bending.
    • Occasional lifting and carrying of objects weighing approximately 10 lbs. and pushing objects weighing between150-200 lbs.
    • May be subject to noisy, hot or cold, humid and busy environment. Subject to frequent interruptions.
    • Possible exposure to infectious disease.
    • Exposure to some noise and stress.
    • Ability to work and talk with people.
    • Must be computer literate and able to operate office equipment.
    • Able to complete math problems.
    • Read, write and speak English at the twelfth-grade level.
    • Attend and participate in continuing educational programs.
    • Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
    • Possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, board members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
    • Ability to harmoniously with and supervise professional and non-professional personnel.
    • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, etc. that are necessary for providing quality services and maintaining a sound operation.
    • Communicate via telephone and other automation vehicles.
    • Visualize equipment and medical record forms.
    • In an emergency, is expected to respond and includes the possibility of evacuation of residents.
    • Willingness to work beyond normal working hours when necessary.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education: Prefer a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Accounting or Finance.

    Licensure/ Certification: Prefer CPA

    Experience: Minimum of five years relevant experience. Healthcare-related field preferred.

    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
