Finance Supervisor jobs in Knoxville, TN

Claiborne County is in upper East Tennessee. The County Finance Department oversees purchasing, accounting, payroll, insurance and retirement for Claiborne County Government, including the Department of Education. The Deputy Finance Director is responsible for administering the business affairs of the School system to provide the best educational services possible with available financial resources.

Duties:

• Direct the financial management of the Board of Education involving local, state and federal funds
• Assist the Director of Schools and the Finance Director with budget development and long range financial planning.
• Coordinate audit function with State auditors and school bookkeepers
• Prepare and submit financial reports to the State
• Perform accounts payable for the General Purpose and Federal Projects funds and supervisor accounts payable for the Cafeteria fund
• Monthly reconciliation and reimbursement requests for school grants
• Maintain fund financial records (Trustee reports, checks, vendors)
• Maintain fixed asset records to ensure GASB 34 compliance
• Maintain knowledge of the Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement (TISA) school funding formula
• Coordinate W-2, 1099, and 1096 process and fiscal year end close of books
• Assist the Finance Director and Director of Schools as needed

Qualifications:

• At least seven years experience in accounting practices
• Knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices
• Proficiency in using accounting software and MS Office applications, especially Excel
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record keeping
• Strong analytical skills for account analysis and reconciliation tasks
• Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
• Ability to supervise and assist other staff

Note: A degree in accounting is preferred but not required. Relevant work experience will also be considered.
