    The State University of New York at Fredonia seeks nominations and applications for a strategic and collaborative leader to serve as the Associate Director for Financial Aid, to assist and provide vision and strategic direction to the Financial Aid Office.

    Fredonia is in the midst of a transformation, with a focus on self-examination and reimagination. Therefore, this position will help the institution navigate the shifting landscape of higher education and chart new territory by experimenting with new ideas and approaches. Essentially, only those looking to generate change, take risks, and invent new opportunities should apply.

    Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid, the Associate Director will create, implement and assess best practices, policies, and procedures while administering top notch customer service to students and families that attend Fredonia. The successful candidate will supervise front end staff, Veterans Affairs Work Study students and assist the director in providing leadership to the Financial Aid Office.

    The Associate Director will work collaboratively with the following offices but not limited to: Student Accounts, Registrars, Academic Advising, IT, Residence Life, Athletics, Veterans Affairs, Student Affairs, and Educational Development Program Office. This is an SL-4, 12-month position.

    Key Responsibilities

    Coordinate and administer the Federal Direct Loan and the Federal Direct Parent and Graduate Loan Programs. This responsibility includes but not limited to calculating Resident Assistant resources, overaward process, exit counseling, Year in College, and ensuring R2T4 requirements are met in the required 30 day timeframe;
    Administer and coordinate Summer Aid;
    Oversee the Registration Discrepancy program to ensure that students are packaged and awarded the proper aid that aligns with federal and state guidelines;
    Oversee the Excelsior program and specialize in troubleshooting while serving on the Excelsior Scholarship working group;
    Serve as the School Certifying Official (SCO). This includes supervising the VA student Work Study;
    Supervisor, train, provide support to front end staff member
    Collaborate with IT to troubleshoot software issues and data integration issues, assist with financial aid systems planning, develop queries and reports, and assist with new year start up;
    Act as point person for Financial Aid web updates;
    Organize SUNY FA Day along with assisting director in scheduling and planning financial aid nights via Zoom;
    Ensure that telephone calls, emails, and other student and parent inquiries are handled in a timely fashion in the absence of the front end staff. This will require disseminating questions to the appropriate staff member(s) in an effort to maximize timely response times;
    Assist the director with federal appeals in the director's absence
    Work with director and Financial Aid Team to create processing efficiencies along with ensuring that aid programs are meeting federal and state requirements;
    Ability to work limited nights and weekends on behalf of both Enrollment Services and the University;
    Willingness to serve on committees that relate to or impact the Financial Aid Office.

    Job Requirements:
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Earned masters from an accredited institution;
    Minimum of three years professional experience in financial aid;
    Supervisory experience;
    Excellent customer service skills;
    Commitment to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents in support of campus and department mission.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in a student-centered, service-oriented financial aid office;
    Experience in financial aid administration in public higher education;
    Experience providing support to specialized populations including those connected to Veteran and Military Assistance and Excelsior Award candidates;
    Expertise with the Ellucian Banner Student Information System.

    Additional Information:
    This is a full-time, 12 month, UUP represented position, beginning January 2024 at an annual salary of $65,000-$78,000 commensurate with experience.
