Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid, the Associate Director of Financial will work as part of a multi-functional team. The Associate Director’s duties include but are not limited to:
Manages day-to-day administrative and systems operations for optimal efficiency and customer service; manages special processes as necessary.
Manages a team of financial aid staff: Fosters a positive, accountable, and inclusive, service-centered culture of continuous improvement, provide training and professional development opportunities in an environment that values, supports, and empowers individual & collective team members.Ensures compliance with federal, state and University financial aid regulations: Stays current on ever-changing regulations and implements updates effectively to maintain program integrity and accuracy.
Serves as a resource and liaison with program offices, administrative offices and students regarding financial aid matters.
Provides comprehensive financial counseling to current and prospective students.
Monitor student satisfactory academic progress
Responsible for processing and certification of NYS Scholarships & Grants including TAP, Excelsior, and APTS; serve as back up for TAP certifying officer
Develops training materials and presentations for staff’s professional development with the student information system.
Reviews applications, system reports and payment documents for accuracy and compliance
Develop queries to support Financial Aid processing and troubleshoot system issues
Assists in resolving security related matters and providing statistical data as needed.
Analyzes data on financial aid processes using CUNYFirst and implements changes when needed.
Ensure awarded financial aid is certified and credited to students' accounts; liaise with Bursar on maintenance of student's accounts
Review and reconcile all state aid programs including the return of funds back to HESC
Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves system application problems, including those related to interfaces with applications specific to the assigned area (NSLDS, COD, HESC, CPS, DegreeWorks and FACTS).
Participate in program reviews/audits; design and coordinate regular periodic assessments of financial aid programs, services and internal operation controls and reports. Provide findings and recommendations for improvement to the Director.
Test and implement technologies to support and enhance office
Research and resolve problems related to student aid eligibility.
In conjunction with the Financial Aid Director, conducts annual staff evaluations.
Manages general office operations in the absence of the Director.
Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and six years' related experience required.
Preferred Qualification:
Experience in financial aid administration at the higher education level
Possess the character and ability to work collaboratively with diverse student populations and community partners
A demonstrated track record of success in team leadership and managing financial aid programs
Proficient knowledge of federal Title IV and NYS financial aid statutes, regulations, practices, and resources
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Commitment to social justice and addressing economic disparities in education
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Flexible scheduling during peak business and available to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
Strong working knowledge and understanding of PeopleSoft or CUNYfirst web-based navigation and writing extensive reports via SQL and/or PS Query
Some work experience with, and/or willingness to learn & lead programs with federal regulations such as R2T4 calculations, Federal Work Study, Direct Loans, or Satisfactory Academic Progress
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Excel, Forms, Teams, Access and PowerPoint
