Financial Assistant (Public) jobs in Springfield, IL

The Christian County Public Defender’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant Public Defender. The attorney will represent indigent clients in all types of cases including juvenile, criminal, and traffic. Candidates should have excellent communication skills necessary to effectively manage their caseload, as well as a passion for indigent defense.

This is a great opportunity to work in a small, collaborative environment and gain hands-on courtroom experience. Christian County is just a short drive from Springfield, Illinois, with a low cost of living.

The salary range starts at $55,000 contingent upon experience. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance; paid vacation, holidays, sick time, and personal time; participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund; and paid bar dues, continuing legal education, and professional memberships. Employees may be eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness, subject to U.S. Department of Education requirements.

Preference will be given to applicants licensed to practice law in good standing at the time of application. Applications will also be accepted from recent grads and 3Ls.
