    Nature of Position
    Perform basic accounting functions of general ledger-related activities related to the closing process to ensure financial transactions are properly recorded and relevant data is presented monthly in a timely manner. Analyze, reconcile and provide documentation for specific general ledger accounts.
    • Perform simple to moderately complex accounting activities to maintain complete and accurate general ledger.
    • Prepare journal entries, reconcile accounts and financial records, perform monthly and quarterly fluctuation analysis; creates reports.
    • Manage the monthly close process to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
    • Plan, review, and ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of accounting data in assigned areas; analyze and evaluate information, present findings, and/or recommends courses of action to management.
    • Assist with the preparation of financial statements, reports, and summaries; resolve the outstanding balance issues.
    • Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with Agency guidelines, accounting, reporting and auditing rules.
    • Review monthly activity for assigned departments and perform budget to actual analysis; perform monthly close process; compile revenue and expenditure statistics.
    • Supervise and participate in developing, implementing, and evaluating plans, work processes, systems, and procedures to achieve annual goals, objectives, and work standards.
    • Orient and train staff; monitor performance and provide coaching for performance improvement; assign and supervise the work of staff in assigned areas.
    • Provide backup and/or assume the duties of assigned staff in their absence, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
    • Maintain, review, and participate in developing and recommending improvements to accounting policies, processes, and procedures; design, implement, and improve daily work and month-end processes and procedures to ensure accurate and complete information within established time-frames.
    • Work with and maintain confidential information.
    • Demonstrate regular and punctual attendance.
    • Other duties as assigned.
     
     Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Principle, practice, and terminology of general and governmental accounting, Uniform System of Accounts (USOA), including financial statement preparation and methods of financial control and reporting.
    • Understand, interpret, explain, and apply Agency policies, state and federal laws and regulations related to assigned area.
    • Understand and apply business data processing, particularly related to processing of accounting and financial information.
    • Identify and apply general ledger setup and processing routines (journal processing, monthly/annual closing activities, allocations)
    • Compile, organize, interpret, and communicate accounting data and results in a concise format.
    • Understand the principles and practices of personnel development to effectively supervise, train, and assign work of others.
    • Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions.
    • Make arithmetical computations and tabulations.
    • Establish and maintain working relationships with those encountered during work.
    • Learn new technologies, policies, procedures and guidelines established by professional organizations and/or governing agencies.
    • Utilize office equipment and other relevant technology (software and systems) to meet business needs.
    • Understand, follow, and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Work as a team member and independently; effectively apply organizational and time management skills; meet deadlines and comply with Agency policies.
    • Exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
    • Focus on tasks and recall details; handle frequent interruptions.

     Minimum Qualifications
    Associate Degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited institution and five-years of directly related accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited institution and five-years of public sector accounting and/or finance experience. Payroll experience.Other Characteristics
